I think you'll struggle to find a genuine 997 engine. They are as rare as the proverbial rocking horse droppings. Also, if you do get an original early box be careful about the gears. There were two types of gears around that time, Type A and Type B. They look similar, but have different helix angles. Also, the primary gears may be of a different design.
True 997 originality is hard to achieve these days, and you may be better off going for a 998 block with a 4-syncro gearbox, as the compatibility of components is much better. The 997 is a bloody horrible long-stroke oil-burning old lump anyway. Never did give any proper power. The heads 12G205(?) are also hard to find.

Cor! I've just watched an episode of Bangers and Mash where a total rusting wreck of an original 1965 Austin Mini Cooper S went for £18K.

Now restored in about a year using the original shell.
