Downton Engineering the famous Mini modifiers is up for sale. £23K gets you the name, the ECU design on the latest cars and all the tooling including a rear mould for the Broadspeed.

A bargain for those with Japanese connections I would have thought...

I'd love to get involved in something like this. How do we find out what is included in the price?

Surely Mini Spares or somewhere similar will snap it up?

Cheers

There is apparently all I posted plus lots more.

The man to speak to is: Stuart Mickleburgh on 01362 667122

I was chatting to the bloke at London Mini Centre the other day and he was saying that they are selling one Mini Classic a day...

Think I'll be attacking my sofa's with gusto this evening

Be so class to own the Downton name...

Edited to add: Why's it going for so little? I'd have thought the name would be worth a fair bit?

Dont know, but there must be little more than a name left.

Their last run of cars was to compete with the Cooper Classic Sport 500's and there was only 5 of them.

Suppose the market dried up.

Still reckon theres money in it though...

Yeah I thought about this too....... Would be cool to jack in the day job AND be able to make enough money out of minis to have a good living. That's the rub though, you can make money but can you make enough ??

What's needed is some brand recognition in the broad sense rather than expensive one-offs. A Downton assault on Mighty Minis or Se7ens for example. Wood and Pickett managed to sponsor a race car (can't remember if Mig or Se7en) and after a period of absence they are back in business.

I dont think it would be a problem in anyway taking such a concept to market its just getting the initial funding that would be potentially difficult.

Setting up a garage costs bucketloads unless you are prepared to do it very very slowly and if you did that chances are the window of oppurtunity would be lost.

Now I know the quality of work was very high with the current owner of Downton Engineering but surely Downton Engineering died with Daniel Richmond.A bit like Halfords buying Ripspeed, it's just a name now?

Probably get slated for that!

Cheers
