Significantly cheaper, even fully assembled than the VTEC route so it does have that going for it as well.

They do have a real trick appeal I have to say.

I'm really after the Q car thing though so VTEC all the way

Carbs will be Amal's, as fitted to just about every classic british bike, and copied as Mikuni's on just about every classic jap bike. Also fitted to most Snow-mobiles with Rotax motors.........

Some 8 ports do use Amals but I understand they can be a pig to start from cold as there is no choke.

Someone once told me the car Amals are different internally to bike Amals and they're not easily interchangable. Richspec will probably put me right on that though as his brothers car ran Amals.

I think the Bill Richards car uses different bike carbs. The magazine story was something about being on the scene of an accident and spotting the carbs on a bike that had crashed. I'd have to look it up in the magazine for more details.

Cheers

Can’t remember what Bills are called but he said they had to modify bits of the carb and float chamber, also had to make up a inlet manifold, sounded like they took a while to get right but worth it.

Just use an engine block pre-heater

Fitted a kenlowe hotstart to my ex's Renault 5, and it started first time no choke every time - it was great

i know it not keeping the mini very original, but i have just bought a conversion from z-cars to fit a bike engine in the back as i got fed up with the cost os a-series engines, check out what they do www.zcars.org.uk, some pretty interesting conversion which in the longrun i feel will be more value for money than an a serie.

Did you go for the single engine or twin?

Did Z cars do the work or you?

May I ask the cost...? :cheeky:

i went for the single r1 engine, seems to be the best kit, i had a ride in one yesterday and it was quick enough and that shell was by far not as light as mine. i have decided to fit the kit myself as it really does not seem that complicated, otherwise cost wise, the kit is 4k the engine is 1.3k thats with just about everything as the rest i already have from before, z cars will fit the kit to a point were it is drivable and just the finishing touches are needed for 3k.
it is expensive in the end but should be by far more reliable!

Be interesting to see how that goes together. Have you got any pics?

I saw the twin R1 engined mini on Men & motors not long ago. The noise was awesome and in a straight line it looked fantastic.

They ran it round a twisty track and it was all over the place. They said it was tail happy (as I'm sure any 300bhp rwd car would be ) and that it felt too light at the back, even with 2 engines in there!

I've started looking at rwd k-series mini estate, but that's a complete home build so I guess it will be a very long term project.

The twin engined Mini produced 345bhp at 10,500rpm

He reckons 60 in 3.9 and it makes a great noise.

Fatboy and I were chatting to him at MITP and he was considering chopping it in for an Evo VIII.

If I hadnt been dragged away kicking and screaming...

just been out on elvington in their demo car which is heavier than mine, it was quick even if the new owner didnt know how to keep the revs up whith this type of gearbox, but you know these track days, they are so tempting, ended up taking the tvr out for a spin!!
