Does anyone have any detailed specs for the SW5 and SW10 cams? I have always liked the 286, but I have to take my 'S' lump out as it's making some funny noises after the last rally and I think I may try a different cam this time whilst it is all in bits.
I'm really looking for figures of lift and overlap timing.

I don't have any specific data apart from I have had both these cams in my 1380, the SW5 was a great everyday road cam (I replaced it with the SW10 after 1500 miles and added a SC box, it's still around here somewhere) whereas the SW10 is more suited to occasional road use if you get my drift

I'm interested in the SW10 for a road and trackday machine too. I've been observing discussions on other Mini boards, and this is the most I've seen to date. It should be viewed as a posting on a web board and not material fact : From Minifinty.com ~ technical forum :

I beg to differ that the SW5 is almost identical to a 286 spec:

The SW5 spec on paper is very 'mild' - shorter than a MG but longer than an A+, It has more lift though. The specs have it down as a 246 duration, however it drives more like a 266 - but better.

The trick seems to be in the lobe profile and the speed in which it opens the valves.

I don't think you will get any info unless you measure the timing and lift yourself.

Looks like I would need to consider the SW10 for my '64 Cooper 'S' full-spec rally car. I wonder how it would compare to the 286 I have always relied on.
I was thinking of trying a Piper 280 to try to get a bit more bottom end without too much loss at the top.
Now I'm totally confused - it's my age!
