All depends on the state of the internal structural bits really.

If you look underneath the door i.e. get on the floor with the door open and look underneath; is there any rust on that section?

If there is I would say source a second hand door if not then get a skin, perhaps an ally one?

The Mark 7(6??) doors seem readily available and they have the bars in and whilst they wont provide much more safety its a little more than the normal doors.

I think they are about £70 which is more but they do last longer (but also push the problem to a different steel panel...)

Hi Dave,
Sorry to hear about your doors. I wonder if Chris S. has any spare doors - he might well have. He always says it is not worth changing the skins as there is usually some deeply imbedded corrosion in the door structure and you end up with a pigs-ear of a job. I have changed skins myself, but would be very reluctant to do so again.

Cheers cooperman
Is what i was thinking
Im tempted to put ally skins on but as long as the paint is layered on nice and thick corosion is not normally a problem
I thank rovers cost cutting for the state of my car!!!

Hi Dave, i'm just about to call in at Chris Spennewyn's workshop to drop off a few bits I picked up for him, so I'll ask him about doors for you and let you know.

Just make sure you lag the inside and bottom of the new door with lots of waxoyl (although don't block the drain holes).

Dave, is your car racing green?

If it is and you get new doors I might be interested in your old ones, I have a racing green with 2 very good doors so I’m taking them off to put on my flame, still need a couple of doors so I can get it mot’d and transfer the plate off, not fussed what they look like.

Ill probably end up just asking for a crate of beer for the door
Beer has better bargaining potential then money

Dave,

I've just left Chris S. but he is desparately seeking some decent doors himself.
To re-skin a door, paint it, fit it and 'blow-in' the adjacent areas works out at £220 per door. This is cheaper than a brand new door with painting and fitting.
If you want him to do this he says to give him a call.

I’ll let you know if I don’t use the doors that a have on my racing green, they should be the same colour as your car and last time I look were in very good condition, may not use them as I’ll have to spray them flame red.

If you just want a couple of doors I've got my old doors, complete with glass etc that you can have if you collect them, or I may possibly be able to drop them down to you at some point?

Cheers Paul you would save me whole lot of trouble if I can get doors the same colour
I'm in no great hurry as the engine is coming out soon but if you could let me know as soon as you do that would be very much appreciated

Thanks Fatboy I couldn’t just take them because ill probably pass them on to Chris if you don’t mind so ill give you some money for them if your sure you don’t need them

Thanks, you guys are too good
