Have got some interesting pointers on bodge on 8 port heads.

As something I looked into several years ago I'm intertested! I've seen the head from the BMW K series bike engine made to fit, and also the Nissan Micra 16v head (I think it was anyway). What else has been tried? I imagine the current crop of Superbike engines have to be prime candidates, but it seems a shame to remove the head from an ultra-light, all alloy screamer and plonk it onto a cast iron A-series block...

Check out www.turbominis.co.uk

Lots of good crack on there!

I've just had a look at the turbo box pictures on there, and it scares the crap out of me.
Just cutting the middle out of a hefty square section cross member and replacing it with a thin sheet metal box takes all the strength out of the cross member.

In a side impact it would just fold in.

It's certainly not ideal, but don't forget you have a hefty bit of bracing accross the bulkhead, in the form of the front subframe (as long as it's not a daft rubber mounted one). VMAX (I think) supply some shaped plates of metal to weld into the subframe to make it stiffer in tension/compression between the towers.

in the end I fabricated a big box section cross member above the old bulkhead - had to cut out the whole firewall to do it tho....
