It is very good in a T bone side impact but only by virtue that your death is instantaneous due to the seat belt anchorage bolt going straight through your temple!!

Obviously you don't really want to get hit by a range rover but then when would you? hehe
A long time ago I was driving the last of my father's classic-shape Range Rovers through a village when some old bloke in a red Maestro tried to do a U-turn across my path. Didn't hit him very hard, but it pulled the Maestro's B-pillar out of the sill. Bent the Range Rover's bumper a bit, but you had to look to notice.

How do you even get inside a Defender?

Commitment.

Plus I get used to squeezing into cars that really aren't big enough for me...

i'm 6ft 5" and with seat extenders (the rails) its pretty comfy if a little snug.

My uncle was T-boned in his 300tdi CSW at speed (about 30mph). His biggest problem was the jar to his backside as the defender rolled off of the Pug 406.

The rear wheel had ridden over the front end of the pug.

The sill was damaged on the defender (along with some scratches) and the pug taxi was scrap.
