Completed the rebuild five weeks ago but have been waiting for DVLA to confirm that the original registration number could be retained. After much form filling, photographs and an inspection by a DVLA appointed engineer, they confirmed that a V5c has been posted to me. They also appear to have sorted historic tax status as it's showing as taxed until the end of April 2020.
Just need to get it out on the road over the weekend.
Two of our four wheel drives pictured enjoying the sun last weekend. Apart from both having two doors, that's where the similarity ends. Fifty five years and 500bhp apart!

My Series III V8 conversion is road legal and undergoing shakedown drives. I'm going on a greenlaning trip in a few weeks and need to make sure I've sorted any gremlins.
I also need to sort either a full canvas to replace the truck cab or a 3/4 to cover the back so my gear is covered up. Keep changing my mind on which kit I would prefer.

What gearbox did you mate it to? I am giving some serious thought into a V8 for a my series 3, but I know it will be a lot of headache compared to a 200 or 300tdi conversion. It was converted when I got it, but it needed a rechassis and full refurbishment. It uses the Series gearbox and transfer box with a Phillips Millner conversion plate. LT77/R380 would probably be the best bet as the conversion plates are a rare thing to find.

My opinion is stay with the truck cab. I had a full canvas on a series 2 109 for years and it was always so bloody cold in the winter. It's a little less so bloody cold with the truck cab. Also, The front and side cab pieces for the full canvas frame can be expensive and hard to get if you want original and your cab already has the little bolt on channel bits on the rear at the bottom for the 3/4 canvas to sit in.
It's a bit late now.
I bought a full tilt at LRO and ordered a set of Exmoor hood sticks at a good discount which includes the screen rail and door frames. There was a second hand set for sale on a stall, but bits were missing, the screen rail was bent and the price difference didn't make it worth my while.
There is loads of heat from the V8 in any case and if I am still cold with a coat on, I can get a fume curtain for the back of the cab.

Nice photos!
I'm back there for my third off road biking trip next month (proper enduro bikes not 'adventure bikes').
Great country and people.
Agreed, we will definitely go back again, but it’s difficult to get the required length of time off work, plus there are a few other places we want to explore.I'm back there for my third off road biking trip next month (proper enduro bikes not 'adventure bikes').
