Patina. The most abused and misused word in the motoring world rolleyes

33’s are pretty tall. You’ll need a tweaked Tdi to pull them well or consider a Re-gear. Also possible to become diff breakers off road. Also watch your brakes, it won’t stop anywhere near as well with them. (Not sure tyres are in the pic. They look fairly fat and big)
You might also want to re-consider HD springs unless you plan to haul a lot. They tend ruin the ride and usually reduce flex, making it more prone to lifting wheels off the ground when off road.
Looks good otherwise smile
It's currently on 35x12.50r15 and pulls very well, feels like more air & fuel. I forgot to check the LT230 but I'm guessing a 1.6 box based on how it pulls with those balloon tyres, so when I go down a tyre size I might need to swap back to a defender ratio sharpish if it's too slow.

Also looking into anti-theft devices. And love it being covered in patina thanks.

I bought this last month, so far I've sourced standard arms, fitted poly bushes and standard height HD springs. They're going on next weekend.

Then a set off 33 x 12.5 x r15 tyres, as I like the wide, but not so much the high.

Very much like the patina, galv cappings are on the cards, I'm currently struggling to find early galv door capings which were decorative on the one piece doors.

It's a 200tdi and will be for use at the parents place in SW France Bergerac.

It's not even rusty!!

It looks ace as it is!

Plus is has an almost identical Protection And Performance roll cage like to have on our Big Foot too!

Are those roll cages just bolted to the bodywork and if so what sort of protection do they provide?

Cant be any worse than a standard Defender in a rollover!

They do a decent job when falling over onto your side at sub 30mph speeds. Unsure above that what they really do.

Nope bud, these are full six point cages.

Where you see the bolted areas, there is another part of the roll cage that’s bolts inside the body, then further connects to the main chassis.

They bolt through the body to mounts which attach to the chassis and body hard points

In terms of protection, a standard defender isn’t setting a very high bar so it’s wouldn’t be hard for one to be a pretty significant improvement!

Ah, wondered if that might be the case - thanks

Well turns out my cage completely lacks any kind of steel work inside of the body panels and is apparently completely decorative..
Funny as just yesterday I was shopping for these..

I've also come up with the genius idea of getting some BFGoodrich T/A 33x12.50 r15 all terrains so I can 'sneak up' on people, and get to Le Mans from Aquitaine in more comfort...

You can probably just about make out in this diagram, where the mount points sit either side of the bodywork.

Not much left of mine.
Getting ripped apart for new update to date rollcage, bulkhead repairs and modifications, then repairs to rear tub, seat box, and fitting the new wings, screen, door tops, proper 80” dash but with extra gauges and power steering.

Then rewire it with my new custom Autosparks loom, renew the brake and fuel lines and paint in Tuscan Blue.

Going for the late 70s to early 80s trials car look.
But fully up to date cage, wiring, seats and safety.

A friend picked up his new Defender yesterday. So we couldn't resist having a bit of a line up and photo shoot.

We have vehicles spanning 1953 thru to 2020.

I think the photos clearly show the new Defender had a lot more in common with the D4, than it does a traditional Defender or Series.

However I think I can say, I do like the new vehicle, despite it being badged as Defender. Not because of it.
