Always wanted a 110 and finally got this last week.
It's an ex-Finnish KFOR TD5 with only 150tkms on it. It's a civilian spec save some for some odd lights and extra power sockets, a Warn winch and Webasto heater. Also came with a set of Wolf wheels with unused Nokian Snow & Mud tyres.
It's quite battered inside and out so now just wondering how much I should tart it up. I'm thinking paint mopping with some localised painting, knock the dents out, paint the Wolfs body colour (Coniston green) get some beefier summer tyes (any recommendations?) and some of those beige canvas seat covers. So classic look but not so bling that I'd be afraid to take it in the forest.

Nice. I’d try to keep some patina. Super shiny show Defenders don’t do anything for me. I like how the winch is integrated into the bumper. It's an ex-Finnish KFOR TD5 with only 150tkms on it. Personally, other than maybe refreshing the plastics and lamps, and maybe a set of modular wheels I’d leave the outside more or less as is and save the effort for the inside so it’s a nicer place to sit! It's an ex-Finnish KFOR TD5 with only 150tkms on it. Interesting. So the consensus so far is to leave it dented and scratched.
I get that as I used to have a VW Splitscreen, but hadn't thought that look for a TD5 Defender. Always thought it was too young. Would save alot of money which I could spend on underbody rustproofing. Also was thinking of painting the Wolfs I have green as it hasn't got a white roof. Pristine green wheels against a scratched body might look daft. White might be the way to go.
Yes, I certainly would like to make the inside a bit more hospitable Needs a new steering wheel too - original or wooden job?

These are the other wheels it came with.
Been reading up on it and apparently, the Finnish Army refers to it as 'partially militarised' which means integrated bumper winches, brush guards, steering protection guard, raised air intake and roof bars for FFR (Fitted For Radio) role. Mine is a winterised version of this so also came with Wolf wheels with studded snow tyres and heated seats.

Their role was mainly to act as convoy escort vehicles for the SISU Pasi 6×6 armoured personnel carriers.

Just got the list of things that need doing on my ex-army Defender from the local Land Rover independent:
Rear axle control arm bushes worn badly
Rh rear wheel bearing
Rh front brake constantly jamming
Front control arm bushes worn
Front cv joints worn
Wiper fault needs investigating
Light switch and indicator stalk both worn out
Fuel filter leg corroded
AC compressor leaking
Engine mountings worn
They are saying that I should start with a budget of 1500€. Does this sound about right? What would be the easiest things to do myself?

The first 5 jobs plus the engine mounts are bread and butter everyday maintenance jobs for Landy specialist. They are easy DIY jobs really, but the cost can mount if you really do need new CVs, a pair of new calipers etc. You can keep the cost down bu using Britpart for everything, but it’s a false economy in my mind. The others may require a bit of investigating and may be more expensive, especially the AC fault. Probably not a totally unreasonable, but does seem a little high.Rear axle control arm bushes worn badly

Why not price the parts yourself, easy enough to do online and then you can get an idea of what labour component is?
Incidentally, which military Defenders came with AC?
It's a Finnish Rapid Defence Force vehicle used for KFOR duties. Civilian base specification but partially militarised with integrated bumper winch, light guards, steering protection guards, raised air intake. It operated in the FFR (Fitted For Radio) role and escorted Sisu APCs I believe.
Ok, good to hear much of the stuff that needs doing is relatively normal maintenance. The car has 150,000kms.

all you need for a school run.Settled on getting the front end bushes on the rear axle control arms replaced as the thing was swaying all over the place under deceleration. The wiper motor was replaced with a 2nd hand unit and the light switch was replaced. Fluids were checked and topped up but not replaced. The bill came in at 679€, which still seems pretty high but I guess these were essential tasks to make it driveable in all conditions and alot better than a starting point of 1500€!.
I'll just have to work through the rest of the list...
Rh rear wheel bearing (new bearing)
Front control arm bushes worn (new bushes)
Fuel filter leg corroded (not sure what's meant by this, perhaps a fuel filter clasp fixing kit will do)
AC compressor leaking (new compressor or can this be fixed?)
Engine mountings worn (new engine mounts)
...as funds allow. Question is, which jobs should I prioritize in terms of easiness/costs?
