Thanks Tom! I did think consider the heavy duty one from Purely metal, seems like a few people on Defender2 have done so recently, but in the end I went for a standard galvanised frame, as I want to be able to strip it right down quickly in the summer, like this (Tom who had the Keswick soft top like yours on Defender2 )
How's G-wagon ownership going?
I love this build, and fair play to you for doing your own thing. There's too many "let's bolt loads of crap to it" or "let's spray it metallic grey and pretend it's a Puma" stuff going on.
If it were mine, I'd either swap the grille for a proper metal one, or perhaps keep the plastic one and put the badge back in the corner, or if it's not got aircon, fit a non-aircon grille, as it looks a little "heavy" at the front perhaps. I also wonder if you had the body cappings galvanised, if that would add to the retro look.
But they are minor criticisms and it's your truck. I love what you have done, and the floor mats are genius! Well done!!!

/\ Don't know there. I had the metal grill on my car from a heritage and if I did it again would do it like this. I think it looks great as is. Agree on the badge in the correct place though rather than central, but that's just me.
G wagen ownerships going very well thanks, just put a thread up on here in the readers section, absolutely love it but miss a full soft top as only have a sunroof now Don't miss land rover customer service one bit though and enjoying not having to worry about where I park or if it will still be there in the morning!
Must say im very jealous of your plate, looks great on the car. I see what you men about the hood frame. Although it looked a bit nice I never actually took it fully off as was a real pain and far to many bolts. for you the factory kit is much more suitable. The most open topped mine got was like the pics below.
Have you gone for a mohair or canvass hood, im sure it will look great whatever.

It certainly is looking something to be proud of all i'd change if it were mine would be the badge position as said above and loose the RR wheels probably for some JE pepper pots or wolfs in linestone.
Did like my twisted wheels though.

Cheers Hard-drive - much appreciated. I agree completely about avoiding bolting too much on... and I think I'm pretty much done now Engine mods next!

But its in the right place... its all the modern ones that have it wrong!! Hood frame isn't just about the bolts, its the seat belts that end up being a pain, as they attach directly to the heavy duty frame. I've got one of the original seat belt bars which I wanted to keep.
I've got the canvas hood, nice and simple again, and lots of different ways that you can "wear" it going forward

I still like the RR wheels for the moment. I'd swap them for some deep dish rostyles though!
ps. Have been keeping an eye on the G-thread with interest.

used to leave mine in the safari mode as I called it.
I should stop reading this as your making me look on autotrader, which is a bad thing for me. Although I do have defender plans for the future
G's getting there now, certainly a car I'd say any defender owner would get on with and appreciate.
