I currenty do 10 -13k miles a year depending on holiday destinations and rather than having a number of separate cars I was thinking about consolidating to a Range Rover 3.6 TD V8.

Does anyone have any rough annual running costs for such a vehicle excluding fuel? And what kind of reserve funds would I be looking at requiring for one off typical borkage?

Depends really... that mileage could be just a service, which is going to be £40-300 depending on who does it, i.e. yourself or a main dealer. Or somewhere inbetween.

Basically it's just an oil and filer change.

If something breaks.... well it depends what and how you go about fixing it. Lots of people like to use main dealers, or high end specialists. Which is fine, but bear in mind they might well charge in the region of £170-250/hr labour. And probably a hefty mark-up on parts too.

So for example, if they quote a job needs 10 hours work, you could end up paying £2500 just in labour, maybe to fix a £300 part.

Whereas there are probably other mechanics, just as capable, that might be able to do the same job but only charge £50/hr labour. That'll make a HUGE difference to any potential running costs.

I've been running mine for just over 2 years and 38k miles in that time. ('09 but 2010MY)

Other than 2 services one minor one major they came in at £450 and £850 but had 4 wheel alignment done and a couple of other bits done at the same time.

Had the alternator fail just after the first service and got quoted £1200 for land rover to supply and fit, in the end i did it and got an alternator identical to the LR one for £220 and fitted it myself, not the easiest of jobs but took about half a day for me and a mate to do it, we're both pretty mechanically minded though.
Had to do Front and rear pads and front discs as well but as i tow a 3t trailer regularly this isn't surprising but otherwise its been spot on.

TBH... If you're asking about running costs of a RaRo... It might not be the car for you.

They are a fantastic car but sometimes the bills can be eye watering!!

I'm happy with minor borkage, say a one off £3k one year, but wouldn't want to be spending £3k a year, hence why I was wondering what is realistic over a longer term of a few years. However seeing a few other posts/threads where people wouldn't own one outside of warranty it has got me thinking it'll be more hassle than it's worth.

At that mileage, why a TDV8?

You could buy the 4.2SC and live a relatively pain-free existence with one, other than for the slightly higher fuel bills.
