Defender 110 brake squeal
Discussion
Recently had new brake discs and callipers fitted to my 1996 110" Station Wagon. The brakes soon developed a terrible squeal so the first thing I tried was to clean the rear pads and swap inner and outer pads on each calliper. This resulted in the squeal only occuring under normal braking (embarrassing). An emergency stop or light check braking was silent.
The pads used are mintex, i wondered whether a different brand would be silent so I discussed the problem with the garage I use. I was told that a fleet they maintain have much better results with Bearmach pads.
Fast forward to this weekend and I have fitted a set of these Bearmach pads with great results, the brakes are silent and the pedal is much firmer.
ETA:
Mintex pads had no anti squeal shims.
Bearmach pads have a rubberised backing and anti squeal shims.
