Having taken a look at the Freelander 2 bought by my Niece last night it was pretty obvious when I opened the bonnet that the battery cover was missing.

Now my knowledge of Land Rover in general is not top notch so please understand I may misname things and need correcting.

Now I can see under the scuttle the air intake for the cabin which has a flap (assuming recirculation flap) and there is a bracket in front of it and I am wondering if anything is missing from that area as well. It was bought from a garage without my involvement and has had multiple issues but this one really gets to me as it opens up the cabin to under bonnet fumes and in the event of an exhaust leak could prove to be tragic.

Now the garage she got it from is 30 miles away and currently the car is unable to start/move due to a failed clutch mechanism (peddle to the floor) so she can't exactly take it back to them. She has had the car 10 weeks and has had various faults with it.

At this point I am concerned about under bonnet fumes entering the cabin.I am going to talk to the dealer about this but wanted to know whether we just have a missing panel or there are additional missing parts. I may also inquire as to how such an omission was not seen in the 'inspection'. This isn't a franchise main dealer.

Any help would be very welcome.

That battery cover is purely cosmetic - it certainly isn't hermetically sealed.

First google result for "Freelander 2 battery cover" - https://www.brit-car.co.uk/product.php/191304/5497... - £40 inc vat.

I'd be far more concerned about the clutch than the battery cover.

Yes I found that. I am concerned about fumes into the cabin and whether there are additional parts missing to seal the intake under the scuttle.

The cover won't make the slightest difference to that.

That's a much bigger question than whether the cover got forgotten or stood on the last time they jump-started it or changed the battery.

Which is why I asked if there was something else missing.
