Hi folks , looking at options to replace my daily driver L322 TD6. I've been looking at later L322 TDV8's however had a view and test drive today of a 2014 Sport HSE SDV6 which we rather liked.

Silver with grey interior and very nice condition circa 36k miles with full history.

Nice drive, only issue being occasional squeak from brakes which having googled seems to be a common issue! Maybe some copperslip would cure the noise!

Apart from that are there any major issues with the 2014 RR Sport? Crankshaft issues seem to ring a bell although I can only seem to find reference to this on the previous model.

Car is from a non LR main dealer so warranty would be an issue and I know these things can throw up big bills so just wanting to do homework before any further consideration....

I have owned a 2014 model RRS (2013/63) since new & covered 36k miles. Other than servicing, its needed nothing than a couple of recalls.

Mine is on a 5-year service plan with LR.

The original tyres have only just been changed.

The rear brake pads were changed under warranty due to squeaking 2 years ago and have just started to squeak again. I would encourage you to look for an Approved car from a franchise dealer as I believe they offer a 2-year warranty. Failing that, you can buy an LR extended warranty.

There are a few stores regarding snapped cranks. Not sure how many cars this has affected in total. Having researched the catastrophic Porsche engine failures, the %'s appeared to be low and it seems to be the case with LR Crank failure.

Personally, I don't bother with an extended warranty.

I've had multiple small issues rather than any major ones, meaning that in 18 months of ownership (FFRR on a 63 plate for 16 months followed by 2 months in a 66 plate RRS 3.0) I've had 12 trips to the service department and 2 call outs for Land Rover Assist.

Nothing has been major (other than the turbo oil leak) but multiple small annoying issues (gearbox errors, airbag warning lights, squeaky brakes (replaced under warranty on both cars), sidesteps not deploying etc).

From doing a bit of research it appears my ownership experience isn't too abnormal, so if you can stretch to an approved used at least you aren't going to be paying for all the repairs yourself (though it is still an inconvenience).

I should add both are fantastic vehicles when they are working smile

Thanks guys much appreciated. I've always done quite well with my Range Rovers having had my L322 for 7 years, preceded by three P38's and a Classic 3.9, none of which were particularly troublesome.

I was speaking to. Mechanic the other day who had seen many of the Jag based TDV6's in the smaller 2.7 guise with broken cranks etc.

I will keep my eyes peeled for an approved used, my other consideration being an end of line L322 instead!

Please don’t buy the 306bhp SDV6 without a proper LR warranty. My 2016 RRS suffered a snapped crank at the end of April at 19,000 miles. Complete new engine being fitted and still don’t have my car.

Not just RRS - the service manager at the LR dealership doing the warranty work said he’d also had the same issue!

Thanks for the "heads up".

I've decided to stick with the L322 and consider one of the SD4 2.0 Sports in a year or so, depending on their reliability and any issues with that engine !!!
