Hi All
15 plate tdci 2.2 110
Currently on the ferry to France with a poorly defender yesterday it brought up the check engine light and went into limp home. Local garage put it on their fault reader it was showing a mass air flow fault but it seemed to drive ok cleared the fault codes and it was ok. Tried to get a replacement maf but nobody had stock. Managed to make it to the ferry but have to run the engine above 3000 rpm otherwise it goes into limp home mode. If I turn if off and then back on it runs normally but eventually goes back inTo limp home after driving for a few minutes @sub 3000 revs My plan is to get a maf sent out after the bank hol - when it’s not in limp Home Power and boost is normal no obvious boost leaks. As didn’t have much to loose pulled the maf and cleaned it but no change - just wondering if anybody’s had this problem before? From what I’ve read, turbo hoses fail but I imagine it wouldn’t run normally ever, egr valve could be the issues not sure higher revels would help that, wiring to maf but again if it was wiring not sure why higher revs would help. Have checked battery terminals are on securely. My current theory is it’s the maf higher revs = more air flow and the maf prefers that but any other theories greatly appreciated. Thanks

Remove MAF and try cleaning the sensor with WD40? Does it have OEM air filter or "something else"?

Thanks I pulled the masss air flow sensor and cleaned it with brake cleaner at the beginning when it refused to run properly the sensor looked brand new but it made no difference. I haven’t looked at the air filter it should be a genuine Land Rover one but I didn’t fit it.

Hi

Got a bit further with this found a sensor on the intercooler which if I clean with brake cleaner it clears the check engine light and car runs normally for a bit and then I get a check engine light and a limp home mode. So I'm thinking if this sensor is faulty and showing a high temp reading the car will put the engine in limp home to protect the engine. So now I'm wondering if I change this sensor it might fix it - has anybody experienced this?

Thanks

Ben

Just to update this was a spot intercooler I know it can be a weak point on tdci defenders along with the intercooler hoses but as mine is under extended warranty the Dealer has to use genuine parts
