Ive had many land rovers but mainly 300tdi defenders and discoverys. My current 96 disco is getting a bit sleepy now. Question is would you fix it up knowing its never going to be worth anything or be that great, blow a load more on a defender or get into a L322 td6.

Ive got a few other cars and mainly do a bit of local work, some light towing and the odd long trip a year.
Im liking the idea of the L322 for its value for money and the refinement it will offer. Are they quicker slower than my disco or too much of a pain in the bum.

Answers please
Thanks

TD6 is around 180bhp if memory serves. Cheap to remap too which will give you around 200bhp.

The TD6 is a BMW lump and considered to be very good, but the V8s are more powerful and a nicer drive. Also no risk of buying one and not being allowed into a major city without paying £20 congestion/poluting charge.

Should be faster and certainly more comfortable when compared to your Disco. L322 interior is a lovely place to sit too. It was such a big leap from the P38 that preceded it and I still rate it as a great looking interior even now!

Gearbox is something to look out for but they aren’t too bad to have reconditioned and replaced (£1500 I think)

Suspension and electronics can be a bit nightmarish on these. Check as much as you can.

Upgrading the audio to something with decent connectivity is expensive (especially if you want it to look decent) The single cd player without the big centre screen actually gives you more options.

Prices on L322s are tumbling at an alarming rate. They now start from mid 2s for a scruffy one and £5-6k should buy you something decent. I quite fancy one, but it would have to be the face lift with the win turbo V8. Interior stepped up a notch and the twin turbo V8 is great engine.
