Generally people seem to go for the V6 - not much in it in terms of 0-60 etc, V6 is lighter and better on fuel - i'm happy with that but not driven the 4.4V8 so can't comment!
I get the 0-60 bit is neither here nor there, but I think where the 4.4 scores is in the torque / flexibility of the engine in day-to-day driving. I've raced my mates 4.4v8d FFRR with my Cayenne V6d and from standstill upto 60/70 theres nothing in it, but after that the v8d starts to pull on me. I think he averages about 30mpg in the v8d FF. What are you getting in the RRS v6d?Will be late 30s/40 on a run of A roads, motorway (similar to your Cayenne I imagine)
Ideally test an SVR, 3.0 and a 4.4V8 - you have alot of choice for your budget! Could get a very nicely specced 2018 RRS Autobiography for similar money to previous gen SVR and i would imagine depreciation will be similar if not less and running costs probably half of the SVR. The new 2018 interior is also a very nice place to be...
But a test drive will tell you immediately which you prefer - they are surprisingly different cars to drive.
I was minded to buy an SVR but bottled it and went for a HSE Dynamic, and I'm glad I did. The SVR tempts for a number of reasons, but the all in running costs (fuel, insurance, depreciation) got me to the conclusion that it would end up costing me twice as much as the HSE Dynamic.
Go for a TDV6, be sensible with the spec and you'll do ok. I added nothing other than body coloured skirts and large washer bottle to my HSE Dynamic (which comes with black grills etc as standard) and there is nothing I feel I've missed. Cost me £65k (cash purchase) which I still think is great value.

I agree, while an SVR seems alot of fun, it got old quite quickly for me - for 95% of journeys i'd rather be in my TDV6. This will likely be the longest i'll keep a car, they are "special" enough in their own way
I would agree that the 3.0TD in Dynamic or Autobiography trim really is a very satisfying everyday motor. I did over 70K in mine over 4 years with 100% reliability and a great deal of relaxation. Fabulous long distance car and deeply practical and even the depreciation was - relatively - tolerable.. I'm not sure the SVR would offer that necessarily.
Perhaps spend the difference on something rapid for the, increasingly rare, moments when a bit of grunt and noise is what's required...

Phooey dont be miss lead if you can afford the running costs of the SVR it will put a smile on your face every minute your in it. All my previous RR ,s have been Diesel until i got the SVR.Imo its one of the best cars you can buy.
I will attach this video just to show you how it makes everyone laugh even those with very special other cars.

Crikey, he's difficult to watch. Him aside though, the SVR sounds like a proper muscle car. Looks good in Estoril blue too.I will attach this video just to show you how it makes everyone laugh even those with very special other cars.

I went to sniff around a black SVR at Derby LR, and although I liked it, I was also drawn to the 3.0d Autobiography in the showroom. The new revised bumpers have sorted out the styling and IMO it looks pretty close to an SVR now. Out of interest what mpg are you seeing out of your SVR?
Cheers

lol, yes sorry about him. Yes the new model looks much better and the AB is a beautiful car as well.
Mine is averaging 18.5 mpg, country driving , small towns.
I don't know what I was expecting.. but after mulling it over I don't think I could live with the mpg now Mine is averaging 18.5 mpg, country driving , small towns.
I'm watching the prices / offers of the new RRS - the 2018 AB is nice but more than I want to spend so might have a look at a used new model HSE with wheel upgrade and black pack etc. Also, (may be a bit too big for me) it's hard to ignore what the same or similar money buys you in the FFRR range - I've not had a proper look yet at what's out there but a 2yr old 4.4v8d seems like mega value in comparison..

I had heard of him but I'd never watched any of his video's. I agree and it will be the first and last video I watch with him in it.I'm a big fan of the SVR for sure though, it falls into the pointless category and some love it for that...whereas others don't. I'm somewhere in the middle.
I bought a new SVR in May17, left me strandard and took 3 weeks to fix, dealer didn't know what the fault was, LR wouldn't tell them, so it went after 6 months, £15k loss.
Mpg......average, 14/17 most I ever had was a 1k mile non stop drive at 80mph to the south of France, was 22mpg, if I drove it like previous LR or Porsches on the same trip the mpg was down to 13 !

Good friend bought an L494 3.0 AB at release and kept it for 4 years with no issues whatsoever (which lead me to buy the same).
He sold it and bought a brand new SVR, had the factory tour to spec it up to the max. Went to the showroom picked up the car, went home and realised the pan roof wasn't working. About 3 days later the whole infotainment system stopped working, the car had about 40 miles on it at this point.
Since then it's just been a gradual st storm of issues which has put me off massively so good luck to you OP, hope it works out.
