It isn't the same chassis. It's the same style of ladder chassis, but the p38 one is unique to it and a different shape and uses different radius arms. It's also 108" wheelbase vs 100" for the D2.I hear they don't rust like a discovery 2 despite having the same chassis.

Having had l322 and p38 I can understand how the l322 is “better” but the p38 has more character. And the p38 engine sounds so much nicer IMO.
I’m thoroughly enjoying my 4.6hse and it has not put a foot wrong yet. It has its ideosyncracies but I put them down to “character”. Have a Hawkeye pro on the way to fend off the dreaded error codes and provide some peace of mind over the winter.
Also got some minty Comet wheels on eBay to put on with fresh new grabbers. I’m told this winter will be a cold one. Bring it on !

Looks like I'll have to stump up £10 for a UJ and £3 for an indicator bulb. Of course, it had the obligatory "Oil leak" advisory too.

My p38 had a warning light for a failed rear light a week ago. Sure enough the nearside rear was not working. One solid thump with my fist and its been fine since.
I have just got a Lynx Evo, reset the HEVAC and now the air con works great !
Loving these cars at the moment. And the 4.6 sounds so good...
Had my '97 4.0 SE for around 4 years now.
First MOT i needed a centre box (£35)
Second one needed a CV boot clip(50p)
Third one needed nothing.
Have fitted a solar charger, as she doesn't get enough use, and keep a fully charged battery on standby.
Still get a bit of battery drain, so did a mod on the RF receiver (remote jog switch breaking signal line to BECM) which cost about £5 from fleabay.
Also fitted a std NO 4 pin relay in place of the EAS timer delay relay to stop the bugger self levelling when parked up.

I have looked at the ones that plug in to the ciggie lighter but am not convinced?
The solar charger means (with the battery drain on my P38), that I only have to trickle charge one day a month, rather than one day a week).
It's only a 6W one though, been considering a 25W.
PS, when you've got the choice of a hatchback, an estate car and a P38, it's the law that you fetch your 'Christmas indoor air freshener' in the TVR.

I'm about to be stuck between cars; sold my L322 and bought a Touareg which has turned out to have a fault which 4 trips to 3 garages, including a VAG main dealer, haven't cured, so I've told the dealer he's having it back.
Terrible timing all round as we have family running around to do over Xmas and a trip to the PH Devon Treehouse for New Year. None of the other cars on the drive are big enough for us, two dogs and a bunch of luggage, so I'm contemplating an interim P38 until I can find something decent to replace the VW. Not particularly keen to buy in a hurry but needs must, so if anyone has spotted a good 'un which is still available, I'd appreciate a nod. Has to be petrol, my preference would be a 4.6 Vogue/VSE like I had before.

It’s Cotswolds, belongs to my local Rangie mechanic and he has been through everything on it.
It’s strong money but I was also looking at it as an interim vehicle between my Classics as the resto is dragging on and I wanted to get the 4 door on the market.
My hesitation was that it’s diesel.

Good luck finding one. Nice 4.6HSE are getting harder to find - the variance in prices is quite startling. Buttons for a beaten-up one and scary money being asked for minty ones. The few nice ones left probably likely to tick up in value maybe.DonkeyApple said:
