Just acquired another FFRR, a 55 plate Supercharged one to be exact, with the touch screen big button head unit that of course feels woefully out of date!

When I last had one of these there was no upgrade route for this - has that changed yet or am I still stuck with the original? If so does anyone know if there is an after market bit of kit to allow Bluetooth streaming etc?

All advice much appreciated!

I would be very interested as well - collecting an 05 (facelift) TD6 today. Rather have the supercharged but couldn't turn this down.

Maybe time for a general L322 appreciation thread?

Done any research your self?

It is possible to fit Eirsin (SP?) X5 Android head units but a bit of cutting and shutting is required. I did manage to track down a company in Birmingham who will do it all for £1k fitted which is pretty good really and takes away a lot of the headache. Its also worth looking through the FFRR forums to see if someone will do it all for you and it will probably cheaper than £1k, but you might have to help the chap who does it.

You also need to find out exactly what system and components you have for the audio kit, as the head units are just control panels for the main processor unit which is sat in the rear wings behind an access panel. This can also be damaged by water ingress because LR are a bit s%$t.

Be prepared to do a lot of searching on forums for this kind of stuff.

I don't have a FFRR, but have thought about buying one and did a lot of research on what you could do with the head units and it was actually a key reason why I didn't buy one. I crave modern connectivity and when I say modern connectivity, I mean bluetooth streaming with fill track info on the screen which isn't even that high tech!

Only on the pre 06MY cars with the BMW based OE system. In my old 4.4 FFRR I had a 10" Android head unit which is super easy on these earlier cars and only requires a front/rear amp interface cable running to the original amp/DSP. The problem on the later cars is that the head unit integrates a lot of 4X4 system and body control display functionality into the unit itself and replacing it then looses this functionality, in addition the control of the amps, rear seat entertainment etc. also needs integrating as this is all switched from the OE head unit touchscreen.

It's all do-able via a CAN interface and an Android app, it's just if someone has gone to the trouble of doing it as I'm certainly not getting into that laugh
