Are Range Rover Sports really that unreliable?
Discussion
Having owned an early 2010 RRS from mid-2012 for four years, I have been contemplating going back to an RRS shortly, or even into a FFRR. It would be around 3 years old, and I would be hoping to keep it for around 5 years.

Buy one from a Dealer because your warranty is worth its weight in Gold. When you buy a RR you may as well just assume it'll be going back under warranty for something or other. And when it expires, extend it.
My 2018 Autobiography was in my possession for 48 hours and then sat at the dealers for 3 months while I was in a courtesy car. The worst experience of any Dealer I've ever had (South Wales... will leave it at that). A few meetings and stiff emails and I rejected the car and demanded my money back. Ironically I wasn't that miffed with the problems with the car, I was more infuriated about how the Dealer dealt with the issue.
They redeemed themselves and ordered me a brand new car 6 months later, and gave me my 'broken' one back as a stop gap inbetween.
The dealership in the end pulled through but initially I thought I had made a dreadful choice moving form BMW with the X5. Because of the nonsense I now have a good relation with the sales manager. Its just a pity you have to kick and scream to get nothing but what you expect from a premium dealership. Unfortunately as echoed by most, at least initially, they are not run like a premium dealership.
No warranty, no buy!

No warranty, no buy!
Or, if you prefer the quiet life, buy something else!
Does anyone have experience of the Land Rover extended warrany? I've had a play on the Land Rover site, but it's hard to get an idea of cost without the full details of a vehicle. I'm thinking buy a three year old FFRR, it will come with a two year warranty, buy a further three years, and there is my five years of ownership covered.
But a) is the warranty value for money or ludicrously expensive, and b) is it actually worth the paper it's written on?

and c) will you get brassed of with continually taking the car back to the dealers to get it fixed? Even if it doesn't cost you a penny? But a) is the warranty value for money or ludicrously expensive, and b) is it actually worth the paper it's written on?

As the OP, this thread was a major contributing factor to us deciding NOT to buy a RRS, as much as we loved the test drives.Having read this thread I'm beginning to think I would be mad....

Mine was bomb proof and fit as a fiddle when I sold it.
I am on my second, the first a vogue 3.6tdv8 bought at 125k miles ran for 2 years no issues other than service items. Sold 2 years laterwith no faults at 150k.
The second a sport again 3.6 tdv8 bought at 55k miles currently at 70k again nothing to report after 2 years of use. I don’t tow, but the get loaded for building diy stuff and tip runs.

Dunno about the newer models, but my 2009 4.2SC HST has been a very good car overall. Bought at 3 1/2 years old with 30k on it, now at 130k. Its had a couple of suspension bushes, bonnet sensor, ABS sensor, and just routine servicing at indy. This year the ARBs leaked and needed replacing and gave the first big bill. Hopefully it will go another 50k+ miles now with just £250-300 services + consumables.
I have a friend who has had an early 2006 4.2 HSE that has 200k miles on it, its had suspension components a couple of times, air con compressor, couple of sensors, otherwise routine servicing + consumables.
Maybe we are just lucky

Why are car-buying decisions so angst-ridden?!!!
OK, I'm coming at this from a slightly different tack now. Given how some owners seem to get years of trouble-free motoring whereas others repeatedly hit expensive problems, is there an argument that says if a RRS or FFSS has been trouble-free for the first 2-3 years of its life then it's likely to continue to be so? Conversely, can you spot a troublesome car because it's got an early history of being in and out of the workshop?
Basically just wondering how you spot a good one!
