New Defender purchase
Discussion
anyone who has ordered in the past weeks/couple of months heard anything from JLR on the possible further delays due to that factory closure?
Not had any pro-active updates from Land Rover since ordering (just had to speak to them a couple of times to tweak spec), but was "4-5 months" before they closed that factory, surely must be longer now....?
Ordered on June 19th in my case...

I spoke to dealer yesterday and was told 5-6 months if I ordered today. I think that's what he told me a few weeks ago, so doesn't look like anything has changed. Spoke to a pretty cagey dealer today about realistic delivery dates. Ordered June 19th, not into build yet of course, so he's hopeful "within Q4", was October/November when ordered. But not much more detail, most likely because he doesn't have any. Assume if the factory is closed, it's just week for week until it opens again....
Later suits me better for cashflow timing anyway, although opens up risk of bonkers used car p/x price boom fading, which was part of the attraction of ordering now. In this situation, my philosophy is "st happens, and it's out of the dealer's control" - from hereon, just want regular updates and transparency, not unreasonable considering the cost of the thing.....
Also read article in Autocar about their new CEO's crack down on QC issues, which looked encouraging. Not so much him saying it, as course he'd say that, more than they've already seen a reduction of a third on warranty costs from MY 2021 onwards... hopefully they keep up that trend and don't rush when the factory doors do open again!

I read on another forum that the spec is the big influencer on delivery times - things like head up displays are causing massive backlog's due to the chip shortage. (prob explains ours as its a low spec)
In terms of comms, I was very impressed, calls/emails every 2 weeks once into build

Yep - also read that a lot. I think though as the factory is definitely closed, and they only make them in one place - it's a different situation than the past. They are literally not making *any* of these at the moment, just finishing off those already in final build stages. In terms of comms, I was very impressed, calls/emails every 2 weeks once into build

I wonder if they've factored in the reduced usage due to covid?Going forward, shutting the factory should ensure zero warranty claims!
Good news that they are at least acknowledging there is an issue.

The while idea of a defender should be its fairly basic? In terms of comms, I was very impressed, calls/emails every 2 weeks once into build
Head up display!
Just emailed the Dealer, asked them to cancel our order and return the deposit, we've ended up back in the holding pool, two previous build dates having dropped out.
Real shame but we have (C19 permitting) two trips pencilled in, the Wild Atlantic Way & Scandinavia. Stock vehicles have too much of a premium. Looking at a high spec 4motion transporter or maybe even a Hilux with a few accessories.

Just collected my MY22 D300SE which has been on order since March so quite quick really.
Having waiting a few months I had high expectations and aren’t disappointed! In fact blown away by this car!
Yes they may be a few gripes about the cubby spaces and the nighttime down lights but this car overall is awesome!
Silky smooth engine/gearbox, great ride and soo many features, I absolutely love it.
