There’s a very good ‘running report’ on the new Defender 90 HSE, in the latest Autocar.

We’ve had Defenders for 30 years, and recently took delivery of a similar spec 90 HSE (although still kept our 2015 90 CSW), and concur with everything it says.

Really impressed with the new Defender 90 - design, quality, fit and finish, road and off-road manners, level of equipment. Just the high and restricted rear load space are disappointing.

Would also like to see a more basic, lower spec, more functional and cheaper variant. But full credit to JLR; the new model does deliver a more contemporary ‘Defender’, character that will attract a much more mainstream market, albeit at the cost of many traditional buyers.

Due to the supply issues, the cheaper and more basic spec models were pulled from sale.

It’s annoying for some but I can see JLRs logic of only selling the higher spec stuff for better profit.

I’m wondering if they would make a 130 commercial with 5-6 seats and the load bay like the old defender utility models.

Very excited. Popped into dealer. Our Defender was built today. It will be here on 24/06/22. Beyond excited. Anybody want a RRS?

That’s great news Mike. So how long will it be from point of order to delivery?

7.5 months from order to delivery. The dealer gave me the promised dog ramp today which was nice as Bear has arthritis. He said we are the only order for the full length folding roof they have taken. The dealership also has officially started selling Vulkan accessories so a set of side steps are only £299.00 plus fitting at I believe another £100.00.

That’s pretty good! I was told around a year when I ordered at the end of December.

8 months and 7k miles into ownership of our D250 90... first trip to the garage.

Serpentine/accessory belt was squealing when cold, getting gradually worse, andthe wife didn't mention it.

But - no drama really, new belt fitted in a couple of days, a week to wait for the slot, got a decent bag of swag out of it, plus they refitted new wheel arch extensions as there was an annoying gap on one of them. No warning lights, just an annoying noise.

if that is it for the famed "hAs iT beEn iN tHe GarAaGe yEt" comments that are the worst part of the Defender ownership experience, then I will take it!!

Everything else is great, love driving it -such a comfy and relaxing driving experience, and the tech all works great. Only regrets with spec are either the side box, or the ladder - one or maybe both of them contribute to an annoying wind noise over 50mph, which gets obtrusive much beyond 75. When i get around to it will take each off and see which it is - the demo car we had for half a day didnt have these, or the wind noise...

Great to hear your loving it Cidered77. Genuinely excited to get ours. Selling my Vitesse as the Defender is going to be the family car and my toy car all in one. I’m genuinely looking to keep it long term.

Looks like there’s a new configuration up with the newest specs. I’ve had an HSE on order since December and specking it up now comes in at an extra £4k!

Are they going to honour the original build price as ordered or am I going to get asked for the extra? Because that’s not going to happen (and I guess I’ll lose the vehicle).

If you ordered a certain spec at a certain price and paid a deposit they will honour that.

I’m racking up the miles in my 90 Commercial and it’s a fantastic machine. Only slight gripe is it’s definitely a bit big around town but other than it’s so much better than I’d expected.

12 months on and 5,000 miles on and no issues whatsoever.

One recall for replacing the front seat rails but absolutely delighted with mine.

With the s/h prices being so high I did think of selling but can’t really think of anything I’d rather have right now

Do like those wheels, Davel. Don't see them very often - very nice alternative to the usual suspects .

Thas very encouraging to hear - hopefully it will continue to avoid the LR reliability reputation for a long time. It was the one thing that was my concern when I ordered my D250 90 SE X -Dynamic in December - I really hate taking cars in for repairs, even if its under warranty.

Tried to keep it to a basic spec as SE has more than enough kit for a Defender (never seen so many options available on a car before) and just went for 'Iger Grey' paint, cold climate pack and the leather wheel and gear shift (plus dealer added metal pedals and cup holder lids). Quite easy to go crazy in that options list but I think a lot of the stuff they offer is over the top.

Have ordered a 130 HSE diesel today. Suspect it'll be 9 to 12 months until it lands, by which time it should be a great replacement for my other half's Q5. She wants a proper truck next so we've gone all in!

We definitely don't need a 130 with one child and other cars, but need isn't the main driver of these things and I love the proportions vs the 110.

Have they released any real images of the 130 yet? With the spare wheel out back it’s going to fill that space at Waitrose when your buying avocados.

Mike - take a look here
https://media.landrover.com/en-gb/news/2022/05/int...

It does tend to fill a space. This was with the back of the spare wheel above the line at the back of the space
