Update! 9 weeks today my car developed the fault.

I’m now sat in the waiting area of Rybrook Land Rover.

Hooray! I received an email saying they had fixed my car. A fault with the PCM, which they have now replaced.

I excitedly turned up half an hour ago , said thank you very much and drove off. The first time I looked at the dashboard, 20 seconds into my triumphant journey towards home, I noticed the emissions symbol!

So I’ve driven straight back and am awaiting the results of a diagnostic test.

So close….so close!

Bye for now!
FFS.
I know these places always seem to be rushed off their feet but you’d think someone would have given it a run around the block just to make sure it was all good after 9 weeks of hassle.

Perhaps they didn’t fancy their luck?

Hi Toni,

Thanks for your message.
Latest update!
The chap in service say they are replacing the fuel cap as mine wasn’t air tight and it needs to be for these Hybrids! WTF!?!?
It’s Friday and I’m getting agitated and THIRSTY!

Keep your fingers crossed!

Friday evening 17:13 pm!

Just got home in the crappy little Mercedes hire car.

Servicing say the car now has a new and different fault.
A sensor in the fuel system!

That’s it, end, I’m now rejecting the car.

One thing I know is that I will be getting my repayments back so far. Then….

I can wait for them to fix it …. again! I don’t think I would ever relax, thinking it could just stop anytime.

I can get my money back and buy a Volvo hybrid. Ffs sake!

I can get the dealer to find me another car.

The thing is, I want a hybrid. Or do I!?

Right chaps, I’m going to drink lots of beer and make my mind up tomorrow!

Anyone care to comment!?

Cheers!

I just think you’ve had a hopefully rare experience but that it’s nature’s way of telling you that LR is not your lucky car brand.

Followed this thread with interest.

We are getting one of the new Range Rovers and have opted for the all new hybrid version that does 69 miles on full electric...allegedly.

Never had a Range Rover before so raised my reliability issues with sales manager.

His initial response was that if anything goes wrong with the new style range rover, you are guaranteed another new one as a courtesy car; not a Velar, Discovery or Sport.

I was more hoping his response was that they have seripusly upped quality control as they have seriously upped the price from the current model.

Fingers crossed.

He was more interested in asking me to sign a disclaimer that if I sell within 12 months it has to be back to them.

Toni, I’ve had loads of Land Rovers and none have ever gone wrong at all. So, my latest decision (after a couple of swift pints) is I’ve asked David at Vertu to find me a replacement RR Sport Hybrid.
I’m an optimist by nature and would like to think, surely I won’t get another car that goes wrong, so I’m waiting to see the 5 hybrids they have in stock.

Have a splendid evening all.

I’m sure everyone here wishes you all the best of luck, seriously. Land/Range Rovers are the most wonderful and beautiful cars to sit in and drive, when they work. My experience over the past 9 weeks has been shocking.
I’ve (FINALLY) learnt that salesmen don’t actually give a flying f@#k as soon as you’ve driven away in your brand new shiny car when it goes wrong.

If you are lucky enough to get through to someone at the dealership who does seem to care, then it seems you’re on your way to getting sorted.

Anyway, all the very best with your new purchase, I’m sure you will adore it and get a thrill every time you climb into it!

Time for more beer. Chin chin!

I am a life long range rover fan but could not bring myself to living with one so bought a Cayenne. This is based on evidence from friends and family who have all had issues with new and used cars. It is also based on research of lemon law cars here in the US. Range Rover just have far to high a percentage of results when searching for lemon law on auto trader.

Like some on here, I have been waiting for the turn around. Maybe it will be with the new model. Time will tell. If they are improved, I will buy one as my Cayenne is now older than I would normally keep a car.

Damn OP that is annoying.

In terms of what to do, I’d just try and squeeze as much from the dealer as you can. Whether it’s a discount on servicing or whatever, I’d suggest that you’ve just been damn unlucky. Make the most of the goodwill LR will want / have to dish out.

Stick with the LR hybrid, if you can face it; they are superb cars. If I could switch to another brand that ticked all the boxes, I genuinely would. And that’s despite my recent experience referenced above. Instead, I’ve got another one on order.

OP - firstly I’m sorry to read about your dramas with the car, I’m not surprised you’re going to reject the thing, I know I would have by now!

I’m going to buy a 2017 FFRR in a few weeks’ time and as Rybrook Huddersfield is my nearest LR dealer I’ll be asking them to look out for one for me along with checking the AUC website. Is there anyone there who you’d recommend as a point of contact? I’ve met a guy called Jonny who seemed to be on the ball but perhaps there’s someone you could suggest? Also you mention a David at Vertu - is your pet salesman?

Morning. I only had dealings with Huddersfield because the AA took my car there instead of taking it to Bradford. That was the first mistake, Bradford is where I bought the car from, so they would surely have fixed it sooner. Once Huddersfield started working on the car, they couldn’t release it until it was fixed as they wouldn’t have been paid by LR, a very frustrating situation.
Becky in servicing at Huddersfield is very nice, plus I met one of their mechanics yesterday who was very honest and told me they do get the odd car with constant faults. So why the he’ll haven’t I been put off yet, probably because I believe in never giving up. I’m sure most of you here are the same, we work hard, we want the best.
Regarding salesmen, they are all nice and are all over you when selling the car to you. On the day mine broke down, I never heard from him again. I’m not going to name and shame as I don’t think you should do this on here. Maybe once the salesman has done his job and something goes wrong, then you’re passed onto someone else with more experience, makes some sense?

Anyway, if we do go for another Sport P400e, I’m thinking it will be just down to luck if we have any problems. Shall I start a new thread asking if anyone owns a P400e and never had an issue!?

Right, need to email Bradford and get them to send me some links of replacements to have a look at.

By the way, my rejected car is a Lantau Bronze with Vintage brown leather. I think it’s perfect (looking!) so look out for it on a forecourt soon and good luck!

Robbo, love your attitude!

Its refreshing that whilst annoying as hell you are still jovial; at the end of the day it is just something that has gone wrong.

Exactly how I deal with things; no point it being upset and making negative posts.

I am sure my first ever RR shall be all good.

Can you let me know how they deal with your replacement car please?

Do they treat the new car as a new deal, therefore giving you a fresh start with the 30 days etc...??

Or does the replacement car carry on from the first deal in terms of the 30 days, and six month periods regarding problems?

I'm presuming brand new deal/purchase, but please let me know.

Hopefully your new one will be better.

Don’t worry Trevor,

I will be keeping you updated all the way.

Yes, I presume a replacement car is just like starting from new.

I am now deliberating getting a diesel/petrol model. I know it’ll be lots more money on fuel, but surely less chance of faults.

I have learnt that these p400e are very delicate things and will come up with a fault at the slightest opportunity!

Mmmm!?

Thanks Wheelspinning!

I’m probably too laid back, but true, if you start loosing it and shouting down the phone, you won’t get anywhere!

No, you don't want to start loosing it, much better to keep it tight!

But seriously, why are you buying another Range Rover after everything you have had to put up with?

OP you have the patience of a saint. Good luck with whatever is next.

I feel a little sorry for the next owner of your RR. Presumably it will be sold as a low mileage, exceptional condition model, with no mention of the troubles it may had, maybe even for over list price? I wonder if the dealer will be transparent about it’s rather tricky start in life.

I’ve had loads of Land Rover cars. Freelander, 2 Big Discos, 2 Range Rover sports (both diesel) then recently a Disco Sport. Not one problem with any of them ever.
They’re my wife’s car by the way.

I just seem to have found a bad hybrid.

As I said a few posts ago, I am an optimist and am not giving up on LR … Yet!

Anyway, I’ll keep you posted.

Right, I’m going to mow the lawn for the first time this year! Exciting stuff. Rock n roll!
