Land Rover Insurance themselves won't insure them anymore, amusingly.
Really? Incredible. LV won't.
I live mid Surrey. Just renewed my LR DS insurance....with LV. Different car. I know

R.
LV definitely don’t. I was with them up until they announced that they wouldn’t offer renewal. It didn’t matter to them whether it was pre- or post- facelift for the L405 (when security system was apparently overhauled), they simply weren’t offering renewal. found another insurer prepared to cover for less than LV’s previous year’s premium.

Shame really as they were great when I needed to make a non-fault claim a few years prior.

Scumbags. mad

This is a mate's car that was stolen the week before last. They cut a nice hole in the tailgate, opened up the loom to access one wire for the CAN Bus system, disabled everything (including the LR tracker) and unlocked the car. Then once inside, they plugged into the OBD port, programmed their own key and were away. After a short chase with the police, they abandoned it and scarpered. If he hadn't had an additional aftermarket tracker fitted (the tracker company dispatched their own team and followed it until the Police came on scene!) it would probably never have been found - he now realises why the insurance insisted on it. You'd think LR would have sorted this by now?

The newer ones have better security than most cars, but they’re still desirable to thieves - so the thieves find new ways to carry on stealing them (I didn’t think you could code new UWB keys like that, though).

I'm unclear whether this method works on FFRRs or just RRS (due to the different tailgates).

My FFRR had the same thing done to it in London. But they were unable to steal it. fked the tailgate and drivers door up too.

I always double lock and disabled keyless from day one.

Gone in one second.
I assume it was keyless relay theft?

Had a look and mine’s with Churchill, but it’s a standard (albeit s/c) factory car.

Well they never went near my house and RR parked on drive and still the owner of a pair of keys, can only assume they cloned me at a petrol station and then followed me home and then struck a few hours later!

Is this possible on the L460?

Also, are these being stolen in the same way?

They double lock like the previous one, with two presses of the button.

The UWB keys still mean they can’t be stolen by the relay method (as far as I know), so I’m not sure turning off keyless is of much use.

I think the techniques used by thieves are becoming more advances, with hardware becoming more easily accessible.
The vulnerabilities & penetration methods apply to other brands too, but I think the RR is the most desirable and hence seems to be getting most of the media attention.

I suspect it’s nothing to do with desirability and more to do with they are being stolen more.

Other way around. They are being stolen more because they are desirable. There is a thriving black market for the vehicles whether whole or in component form which doesn't appear to exist in such quantities for other cars.
The security is no worse than other manufacturers.

Agreed. It’s why they are being stolen more. It’s not that they are being stolen at the same level as everything else but being picked up on more by the press.

Is the new L460 armed with better security than the L405 ?

If so , how much better ? I seem to recall someone saying it wasn’t possible to copy the signal from keys in the house , on a relay & start the car…

Unable to find any details on line…I would expect some sort of JLR. boast to be made if they had some improvements.

Whoops see nomde jour post above
