New Defender? After thoughts and ownership details
Discussion
Had ours new since July 2021 - D250 SE 110. Issues so far after 26k miles:
Aux belt recall, a-pillar end caps both fell off and had to be replaced twice, all four brake discs warped after 25k miles ( that could be me though). Other than that, I can't think of a better family car for where we live/how many children we have.
Service at Sidcup Land Rover has been outstanding.

JLR really dropped the style and taste ball with that special edition in all over green. At least the black wheels are a big improvement and might sell the car.
Agreed, i just had one for a month as a courtesy car and it definitely isn't popular! Perhaps it would look better on white or green steelies. jonesey said:

Yes or possibly cream steelies. Actually it would look better on anything apart from the green alloys!I'm getting my Eiger Grey 90 ready for collection now after three months of happy driving (the new car I ordered 21 month ago is finally arriving)!

Have just bought one- thanks all for feedback. It arrives Friday. D300 hse xdynamic. Has a few options that we really wanted (hud, cooling seats, refrigerated centre console). Roof rack being fitted prior to delivery. Also has the advanced off road pack
Looks good.I recently went on a Landrover Experience half day. It's amazing what theses things can actually do offroad, and I wouldn't be surprised if I only did about 50% of it capabilities.

VW Tiguan R-Line
Yes I know its hardly a like for like change. But it was ordered almost two years ago with a 10% discount and £1,750 deposit contribution on top of that and VW (in stark contrast to JLR) are holding the original deal for me. Five price increases later its just too good to turn down so the Defender went today. In the meantime I'm driving a rental car for a couple of weeks until the Tig arrives.
It was an interesting experience selling it!

OK I will spill the beans!
X-Dynamic Defender 90 (SE spec) with cold climate pack, heated steering wheel and free 'matrix' headlights (I never got them to work but apparently they are there).
The car is now just under three months old and has covered 3,000 miles.
Supplying dealer offered £3k less than what I paid for it to buy it back.
Local JLR dealer declined to offer as fully stocked.
JLR branch of the VW dealership group that I'm buying new car from said the same thing - fully stocked with Defenders.
WBAC: offered £2,300 over what I paid (less £75 fee)
Scottish main JLR dealer (via Carwow) offered £2,450 over what I paid (and no fee) - so I sold to them and they collected and paid today, no messing about.
I will also get 75% of the VED I paid back.

My experience was slightly different.
I bought a Defender 110 Carpathian V8 3 months ago, it had a fault with the gearbox from new, they had it for a week to try to fix it, gave it back with a “we have no idea sorry”, I gave them 28 days to fix after that, they didn’t and I rejected it on Wednesday, got the money back today (mostly) after 3,000 miles.
I looked around for what else I would buy, Audi, BMW, Mercedes and found nothing I liked so tomorrow I collect another brand new identical one from another dealer, I test drove it last weekend on trade plates and it’s gearbox was fine.
I love it, just couldn’t live with a dodgy drivetrain!

Picked mine up a couple of weeks ago and love it, has to go back in a few weeks to get the raised air intake fitted as that was unavailable before I got it, obviously need this before I can go on safari down the high street .
That looks nice. I am trying to work out why some look fairly average and some look stunning. Even when the colour is the same. Yours has the wheel arch extenders in gloss black right? Are these factory fit or aftermarket?

Are the cars you are looking at really the same - only the X-Dynamic trim comes with all the gloss black bits. Some cars are Carpathian Grey (a very expensive extra) whereas others are Eiger Grey (not as expensive). Wheels make a big difference too.Gassing Station | Land Rover | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
