Hi. I have had FFRR for many years and love my new model vehicle that is coming up to a year old.
However the insurance is becoming ridiculous!

Who has recently shopped around and found a good broker or company they could recommend?

I am getting quotes of £4K to £7K with full no claims in a decent area and is the third year running it has doubled in price.
If I can’t find a better quote I will cancel my next on which is due about this time next year.

Not quite in the same league but our insurance nearly doubled this year as well with no change notwithstanding the vehicle is now worth less than last year. To be honest its starting to put me off, however what do you replace a FFRR with...

There's a recent and very long thread on this topic if you have a look around. You're not alone.

If you are referring to the London uninsurable thread, it does not apply to me or answer the question I raised.
Or is there another thread I have missed?

No, I meant that thread, it started off with London but I thought people were posting who weren't in London and were having the same issues (inc me). I don't know enough from your post to understand how/why it's not applicable, I was just trying to help.

The thread is relevant to anyone with a RR, regardless of postcode.

By all means shop around, but if you don't want to pay the prices being asked, don't.

£20 a day just in insurance.

Add in depreciation and you might as well just burn a fifty every morning.

Atleast then you don't have to worry about 5 blokes in balaclavas smashing your door in.

Going against the grain here (Herefordshire) have a 21 plate FFRR amongst other exotica plus some run of the mill stuff and my insurance hasn’t changed in terms of premium from last year to this year. Zurich Private Clients are the underwriter via an enthusiastic broker

Thank you. I will try Zurich. Would you mind sending me the brokers details?

Thats only part of it with a RR as well. You never know when its going to fail and you are off to the garage with the expectation of four figure bill.

I recently got some quotes for early L405s/L494 and they were significantly more than what I have been paying and even more than something like a Panamera or a 911 of the same value.

Range Rovers are brilliant, but like others I often wander if they are worth the headache.

I have had several JLR vehicles including original Defenders (three and still own a 64 plate from new), RRS and FFRR and that has not been my experience with any of them – having sometimes kept them for 5 years or more I have never had a bill for more than £500 and had only minor problems when within warranty.

Having said that the main dealers are pretty poor at sorting any faults whether within warranty or out.

Having shopped around including the above broker recommend, everywhere either wouldn’t quote, or came in at between £5 and £6000. (I paid £600 three years ago!! - apart from Admiral that has quoted £2500

I am going to cancel my next FFRR order which was due in about a year and look into replacing this present vehicle before it becomes uninsurable.

The trouble is what to replace it with:
Don't like the look of Bentaygo (and no local dealer/more than I would like to spend)
Likewise DBX (same as above)
Defender 110 (overpriced and not really comparable)
Porsche Cayenne (Had one and wife didn't like it)
Macan (A bit small but wife does like it)

My parents have a normal 2 year old Disco Sport, last years insurance was £500, they said they are no longer insuring these cars on renewal, replacement insurance was £1700.

Both retired and good postcode with no negative driving history

@ andyxxx - What about the Discovery? It’s an awkward looking thing I admit but it’s lovely to sit in, good value and cheaper to insure. I was about 55/45 L405/Disco when looking to buy but simply had to have the RR, but I’d be happy to make the change at some point.

The policy on our L405 isn’t up for renewal until next April but with the way things are going with premiums, a third child on the way plus the 6 points my wife has managed to accrue recently the change may come sooner than planned!

For the record and comparison, I have a 2015 LR DS HDSE Lux, had it since the end of 2016. Insurance for 2022 was £680. For 2023 is £730. This is with LV via a broker I have used for many years.

I retired 18 years ago and live mid-west Surrey and in a good postcode, good driving record.

Thanks for the suggestion but I couldn’t buy a Discovery for the back end alone.
I would rather buy a late low mileage of the previous model – which I thought looked brill.
The new one is tipped for 2025 but can’t wait that long.
