Is there a model with low insurance as I would likle one as a first car. I have looked at ex-military 90's 110's and 109's but they seem to be about grp. 5 or higher. Is a lightweight anygood?

Try NFU Mutual for Insurance- put the car under your old mans name, and start a new policy in his name with you as a named driver, your looking at £500 insurance,

Yea is legal, got 2 of my sons insured like that, I've got 4 Policies.
My youngest 1 just passed, he bought a Terrano 2.7tdi insurance= £686

also if your old man qualifies you'll get 5yrs no claims given to you like that!

No, no and thrice no.

That is tantamount to fraud. If your son is the main driver of the vehicle he should be declared as such on the insurance policy. If he's down as being just a named driver, he's considered to only use the vehicle occasionaly and the policy is costed by the insurance company accordingly. If you need to make a claim against that policy and the insurance company suspect that you've not told them the truth, there's a chance any payout will be considerably less than you might hope for. You'll also find it difficult to get insurance for any further vehicle.

It's expensive to be young and insure a car for a reason. I'd suggest building up a couple of years NCB with a low risk vehicle such as a Ford Ka and reassess your options at some time in the future.

He does drive it occasionaly, Its my car he just borrows it,
You don't have to tell the insurance company "He only drives it every sunday"
-The people on the policy are insured to drive it any time,
-My oldest crashed and they paid out without no problems
