How do you unwind Inertia Reel Seatbelts

How do you unwind inertia reel seatbelts when they are not fitted.
I have just fitted seatbelt plates to my 2A but when I want to fit inertial reel belts the belts won't unwind enough to allow me to fit the.
The dam things won't unwind whatever I try, there must be some way to get them to unwind once they have fully wound up after removal.

Sounds daft but they need to be the correct way to release, as most only mount one way.

They lock out if they are upside down or at a bit if an angle. You need to fit them in the same orientation as they were in in the original car.

Thanks for your advice, I released them by holding them rigid and vertical as they would be when fitted and as you said they unwound ok
