my front prop shaft is in the process of self destruction

Could i take it off and run around with the centre diff locked while i get the parts for the propshaft?

In one article I read someone did that because they had a missing front half shaft IIRC (it's in a recent mag anyway), and it did the diff lock in, so I think the answer is no I'm afraid.

Hi, Yes remove your front prop and run around in diff lock, but remember it will not handle like it did with 4wd!

As above it all depends on the Landy you're driving. If it's a 90/110 then spend some cash and get a new prop they ain't that expensive. If you decide to run it in Difflock you'll be slowly destroying the centre diff which isn't as cheap as a new prop.
If it's an old series I'd still replace the front prop but that's me I know as soon as I do away with it I'd ing well need it . It's there for a reason 4WD

So for moving it around and the odd run to the shops then no problems. it is not a permanent solution just until the new prop turns up. Well to be 100% honest until i work out what prop i have so i can get the new joints and fit them as most of the parts place are down south and englandshire is closed until tuesday

propshaft off and bits ordered

A few clunky noises when coming on and off the power but it got me from my workshop to me house

As to handling changing defenders don't have handling as far as i am aware they are just a big blobby leany mess on the road, though seeing my daily driver is a seven it isn't surprising

If it is clunking it sounds like UJ's and they are cheap and easy to replace £20 and job done is an hour. 2 wheel drive is a get you home solution.
