Hi,

Just had my 1998 4.6 Autobiography serviced/MOT'd for the first time. Attached to the invoice was a note saying suspension bags are perished/cracked.

This doesnt sound like a cheap job,can anyone advise what kind of price I should be looking at to get these replaced.

Regards
Steve

If you know what a spanner looks like you can do them yourself for about £80 a corner. They're always advertised on our favourite internet auction website (item number 160131476004, for instance)

Infact you won't even need a spanner! The springs are held in place by a pair of 'R' clips (one at each end) and the hose just unclips from it's coupling.

It's probably worth doing all four at once, that way you'll save yourself a whole load of long term grief by avoiding pump failures, etc.

phew, thanks.. i was having a panic on for a while thinking its going to cost a fortune....

Should put in a good word for the P38 whilst im here, on the forum seems to be a lot of good, bad and ugly around the P38's.

Mine is a 1998 Autobiography 4.6 with 92K on the clock, I bought 12 months ago and had converted with McClaren LPG kit. So far I havent had a single problem with anything apart from one number plate bulb blowing !!

I think this shows, some of it boils down to luck and how well its been looked after/serviced.

I bought 4 airbags (gen dunlop) from a chap trading as 'Road Race Rally' this time last year for £66.50 each, he was on ebay, and might still be but his tel no is 01449 721700. Might be worth trying.

If you are going to fit yourself and you dont have access to testbook to depressurise the system look at this website for guidance how to do it without, Ive done it and it all works a treat

If you fancy a really worthwhile upgrade, speak to these guys :-

I fitted the Generation 3 suspension units and they are superb. Same design profile as the latest discos. A very comfortable, well controlled ride on tarmac and brilliant off road. Speak to them about prices. They gave me a significant discount when I bought the set and threw in a set of bump stops for free. With the dollar rate as it is, they worked out very reasonable. Absolute piece of cake to fit.
