I'm contemplating the purchase of a Freelander TD4 sport having never had any form of jeep before. I need to do a bit of offroading and this particular jeep / engine package is attractive to me on the basis of being decent on road, good offroad and relatively economic.

I am, however, slightly concerned that it will be a bit lacking in performance. How do they drive on the motorway etc. (no test drives yet) and has anyone tried any kind of engine management type power gain type work?

Any advice regarding either general performace of this car or power boosting appreciated!

Cheers

Jeep??........Jeep??...........Jeep??

I think the term you are looking for is 4wd vehicle!

Seriously, Td4`s are good vehicles as they are fitted with the BMW 2.0 lump

Will top out at about 110 mph, not seriously quick but can be chipped to give a 30% increase in performance for about £450. Then they move very respectfully, give good MPG too.

Stop thinking about a Jeep and buy one now!!

Cheers Roy

Lol, didn't know it was regarded as poor 4wd etiquette to refer to them as jeeps - it's common place amongst my friends and I so maybe I should phase it out. Sorry for any offence caused!

Seriously though, it does look a good all round package and the chip mod you describe sounds like a probable future mod after running one and seeing how it goes. Do you know who is recommended for these kind of mods?

Also, being someone better versed in performance cars than off roaders, would the sport version be a more suitable 90% on / 10% offroad companion?
