Oh dear my LR dilema

I have recently sold this

And im waiting for an L322 Vogue to come off of a firm for me to purchase for a reasonable sum in November.In the mean time,ive bought this as a cheap runaround and a bit of fun.




Now after driving this about for a couple of weeks,ive started taking a serious liking to Defenders.Enough,that for the time being might put pay to the plans about buying the L322.Because ive been looking around and i so want this.


A defender 50th Anniversary model.4.0 V8 auto.

For and against on the Defender.

For Rare.Only 340 made
Will keep the bulk of its value
Only go up in value
Cheap to run(compared with a RR)
Against
Not that comfortable for long journeys
Not kid friendly

Range Rover
For.
Comfortable for long journeys
Lots of toys
Kid friendly

Against.
Drops a lot in value
expensive to run
And a lot more to go wrong.

I just dont know what to do.My minds telling me to wait till November for the RR.But my hearts telling me to give the 50th a go...... Any ideas.....

Hmmm, tricky one, depends what you are going to be using it for really. I have to say that unless you are doing big mileage I would be really tempted by the 90, it's just so goddam cool and will never, ever look chavvy, footballer or drug dealer (unless that's your thing!). The 90 will also never age, where now to me the P38 Rangie pictured looks older than the 110!

There is a peverse pleasure from driving something really 'ard on road...my daily driver is a BMW 3 series yet I just love driving my 1995 jacked up Disco on road!

By the way your 110 is really nice, I take it you know it's ex-bomb disposal?

Go for the 50th, if I could afford one I would.

Even if you only have it for 6 months it will be worth it.

Its been made to look like an EOD vehicle.It is in fact a civvy spec one.I took a picture in of the LR 90 50 in to work last night,just to get a bit of reaction off of freinds.All gave it the vote of approval.Some even saying that it doesnt date,its ageless.I know it would be different where i work,because everyone either has a RR or RRSport.

Even to the extent of white diff, no lamp surounds and the correct tyres! OMG!!!

personally i would find this a hard decision to make, the V8 Defender is as everyone has said a very cool and ageless car, but the L322 is modern comfortable and a real pleasure to drive, if your getting one for a good price i wouldnt worry about depreciation on the Rangie as an 02/03 one is unlikely to take a big drop now, you still see late P38s for around the £14k mark.

The L322 is a 54 plate that ive been promised.But i was promised it in Sept,then oct,now Nov when the new one gets to him.Thing is ive got money burning a hole in my pocket.Now after driving around for two weeks in the Defender ive come to realise how simple its is,but could do with a few comforts,and the 50th fits the bill.What ever way you look at it the L322 is going to keep dropping in price where as the 50 has already taken its hit and will only rise in value due to the collective appeal about them.Im really stuck on this one.

Tyres are wrong though.It should really be sitting on Michelin XCL,s.Goodyear high milers as fitted on this one,were the norm for series 3 military.

You should go with the 50th. My td5 90 has heated seats, heated windscreen, carpets etc you can even have a conversation while moving. I looked at 50th before I got the TD5 but the 15MPG fuel was too much for my wallet. Don’t LPG it if you get one.

Go on give a 50th a good home.

I'm not convinced its going to go up in value personally, Its just a car.

It might not go up by much,but it will maintain its value.Where as the RR will drop.Plus another bonus is the simplicty of it compared to the RR

you could be right, im no Land Rover expert but i do like them and take an interest in thier models still, i heard a rumour that the L322 will get replaced around the 2010 mark(dont know how credible it is), if this is the case you could expect the L322 to take a huge kick in the wallet when that happens for obvious reasons, the aniversary Defender wont, plus its an auto with a few creature comforts like a/c i belive?, and it is a very cool car and alot more basic if things do go wrong than the Rangie, in fact thinking on it if i were you i would get the Defender, which is saying alot for me because i love the L322!!.

The heritage variant also suffers from these flaws saw one heritage that was an oslo blue over sprayed with heritage green straight from the factory!!

I had no intentions of fitting LPG but would like to no the reasons as to why not?.I know that on the P38,was a bit hit and miss with there converions.Im going to have a look at a 50th next week.They do all come with aircon.Was a bit surprised for a limited addition model that they still have wind up windows.But theres the simplicity of it.Less to go wrong.
