Picked it up from dealer this eve. Very pleased so far. I went in originally for a RRS but came out having ordered a Freelander. Went for Izmir blue with black leather, and additional side steps on top of the comprehensive HSE spec.

I'm quite suprised at what seems to be turbo lag at lower revs though. I didnt think it had a turbo. It really kicks off when it gets to 3000 rpm.

Need to check on the sales brochure as I thought it was supposed to come with a tank of fuel. Only got 1/4 tank. But thats just getting petty.

No it's not getting petty. You should get a full tank end of argument! Hope the new ride is good. smile

Does it come with a LR experience half day? If not try and blag one from the dealer.

Went with a friend the other weekend. We were booked for a Defender but they broke it the day before so we opted to go out in a Freelander 2. Went with the full expectation that a 'softroader' would not be as much fun.

Came away seriously impressed. We went everywhere the big boys went with the only proviso being that you ride the edges of the ruts as you don't have as much ground clearance.

You have to do this so you can understand just how competent your new toy is.

It has a cam-profile-switching system that has a similar effect to the Honda VTEC.

I did get the Landrover driving day included. I think its standard.

The dealer is calling me in a couple of days to see how its going (thats nice, I never got j-shite from Jag when I spent over twice as much!) so I'll ask him about the fuel then.

But shouldnt it be a bit quicker to decide that I'm trying to floor it? Well i've only driven it once so I'll see how it is when I get more used to it.

I wouldn't hold your breath if I were you. It's the best part of two tonnes and has only 75% of the torque of the diesel version at twice the revs. 0-60mph is about the same as a Vectra 1.9 diesel. They are great cars, but road-burner it will never be.

I dont think 8.4secs 0-60 is slow.

The petrol engine doesnt enjoy the torque related performance of the diesel (important in a heavy car).

Me neither for an automatic off-roader, but the I6 needs to be revving before it produces torque compared to the diesel, so you are always going to have the 'turbo-lag' effect you complained of. Having driven the I6 and the diesel, the diesel feels more lively most of the time, the I6 only really scores when you wind it up into the 4000-6000rpm range. No criticism of them, I think they are both great, but you may be expecting too much.

I agree the diesel in my opinion drives nicer than the petrol, it feels quicker, quieter and does more than 15 mpg.

Couldnt disagree more. I drove the diesel a lot and found it much more sluggish and much louder. It takes another 2secs to get to 60 and its noticeable. I was equally disappointed with the TDV6 in the RR sport. I'm suprised there isnt a decent diesel in the Freelander as i'd have bought it.

The noise of the i6 is actually quite nice though. I agree with the need to rev the i6 for power.

Well I looked in the brochure and it says that fuel is not included and is therefore at the discretion of the dealer. I'm suprised they dont just add it to the "on the road" price and be done with it. They didnt seem to have a problem adding on £80 for Carbon Offset.

You views are very surprising, the diesel in auto form has considerably more torque than the petrol. With the discount I'm sure you got I wouldn't worry to much about the 3/4 tank missing !

That was the only reason I didnt get the diesel, in that it was so slow. There was a bit of power once the turbo kicks in but I just fancied something nippier.

Strange though - as my experience is that the diesel is much more torquey and a better performer.

?
0-60 8.4s for i6 and 10.9 for TD4.
The TD4 has more torque at the peak, but it reaches that peak too quickly (at 2000rpm) and torque falls rapidly thereafter. Infact the i6 has more torque at 2500rpm onwards. Additionally the i6 has a additional 100bhp.

Your figures are incorrect, the TD4 auto produces more than 317nm (The max figure for the i6) between 1500-3400rpm, the TD4 auto does 0-60 in 10.5 seconds, which is slower but I believe in real world driving other than traffic light grand prixs the diesel will be quicker.
