but thinking about chopping the tuscan in for this and just wondered if i was being a bit silly!!!! enjoy off roading in my sj410 but always fancied a defender and think this one may fit the bill!

£8k? Nearly as ludicrous as comparing it to a Wildcat.
Defenders of that age had drum brakes on the rear, weak 10 spline half shafts, heavy clutches and vague gearboxes, it's also not a genuine station wagon. All of the aforementioned may have been upgraded and which point you are getting towards Q plate requirement, assuming it's not a ringer.
£8k would buy you a late, top quality unmolested 300TDI.
