1998 Range Rover 4.6 HSE

In Oct I found I couldn't open the front passenger door via any means. The local
dealer said I needed both front door locking mechanisms changed which seemed odd but I had it done and they worked. However, the superlocking whilst it worked did not flash the indicators and the locking alarm (i.e. the alarm sounding if you try to lock the car with, for example, a door open) didn't work. I was told that this would need a new BECM at upwards of £700. I decided I could live with it for a while!

Now I have the same problem again, the front passenger door cannot be opened either via the key fob or from inside.

Any suggestions?

Regards and thanks.

Buy a North American spec Range Rover because they don't have superlocking.smile

Can't superlocking be turned off with a Testbook or T4 scan tool?

I have had a problem with the locking and the imobiliser and was told that need a new BeCM and pod behind dashboard. Car has been off the road for a while now (because I am too lazy to sort it and don't really need the car) but friend has sent me these couple of links

Well, the problems are solved. Yesterday the door lock/latch mechanism was replaced (just the one) and this sorted the specific issue with the door openeing. Quite why the dealership insisted on replacing both last time I'm not certain so I'll address this issue in the coming days. The other issues were solved with with some form of reset of the BECM. It's not clear to me what the technician did but it saved me having to spend some £700 needlessly replacing this item.

Unfortunately, these days main dealers simply go for the easiest option that clearly makes them the most money i.e. replace the box. I had a similar issue with a climate control unit in a Jaguar; this was solved with a 13p diode, a soldering iron and around 90 mins total work.
