2007 Range Rover - iPod integration?
Discussion
I have a fly lead from Dension that feeds into the Aux port on my 2007 Range Rover S/C Vogue SE.
Two problems. It doesn't charge the latest generation iphones and itouches. Secondly, it requires everything bar the volume to be controlled from the ipod. Not a massive embuggeration but I'd like to perform basic functions from the steering wheel control and see the tracks on the screen, etc.
Anyone know what is out there? The Land Rover dealer is being a bit vague.

They weren't able to tell me what it is or really what it costs. £500 is quite expensive if it isn't a top-notch solution.
Would you mind reporting back?
I have had a nose around the internet and seen a Land Rover installation that uses the CD interface (with a switch in the glovebox to change between iPod and CD changer).

It's not being done for a few weeks, but I'll reply to this thread with feedback. I hope it's good - I daren't tell my wife how much it is costing!Would you mind reporting back?

I did have the ipod connector fitted by my dealer earlier in the year. You connect the ipod by a connector in the glove box and it takes over the CD multichanger part of the audio system. Each CD button (ie buttons 1-6) select a different play list (so the first six play lists on your ipod) with the 6th CD button selecting the music from your ipod.
You get to see the name of the track on the screen which is pretty good I guess, but if you don't use play lists that much (like me) then it's a bit frustrating. You cannot change what you're listening to unless you disconnect your ipod and change it on the ipod itself. This is in contrast to the system on my Jag where you had full control of the ipod during playback. You didn't have a track display on the screen, but that's no hardship when you can so easily glance at the ipod in the centre armrest.
So overall, I'm happy that I have the ipod intergrated, but I imagine there are better ways of doing it, and I probably don't feel that I got value for money. I can't remember how much it cost, but it wasn't cheap.

What additional functionality does the upgrade offer? Would it apply to my ipod system? (08 Vogue, system fitted by dealer in March 2009). thanks

Apple's latest software/firmware for the ipod/iphone has stopped them being able to be recharged through the Landrover ipod dock there is a TSB about it and Landrover recomend you purchasing a new cable to charge the device via the cigar lighter. I'll try and find the docs and post a link.
I had the iPod dock factory fitted to my 57 RRS and it worked fine until a few weeks ago when I updated to version 3 of the iPhone 3G software now it won't charge and neither will my iPod, I havn't updated the wife's iPod yet and have been told "not to dare touch it"

I've just updated my ipod (not an iphone) and it still works okay. Have to say I'd be pretty fed up if it stopped working. It's not a brilliant intergration, but to have spent all that cash and then it not work would be pretty annoying. It's a shame Land Rover can't offer upgrades to the system. I presume they don't?
You can get an up to date lead that will charge Ipohnes
Its down to Apple they have changed the charging pin on the bottom of the latest Ipods from 5v to USB Charging
You can get them from Dension as the Land Rover kit is produced by Dension
I think its one with a grey end or may even be white.. yours may be green or blue have a look at the kit
I Have changed a few or these now and it works every time.. any Dension dealer should be able to help if they know what there doing..

I have the Griffin version and it works
I bought one of these for my '07 S/C
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kensington-LiquidAUX-Delux...
It plugs into the 12v socket in the cubby box, and plugs into the aux socket at the back (I have the rear entertainment system). It's a bit of a squeeze in there, so I leave the ipod connected all the time however it does switch off with the ignition. It's just about possible to position it so you can operate it, but the steering wheel remote does the basic functions like forward/back and pause.
The only issue is that build quality isn't great. I originally tried 2 of the non-deluxe version but sent them both back as they either didn't seat properly in the power socket or the ipod. The deluxe version seems better, but occasionally you need to jiggle it about to get it to work.
