Before Gumtree could catch onto me, I would open up approx 80 web tab's, copy and pasted into every tab as a 'new ad' and within 2mins I would submit them all so it flooded every region of the UK, Gumtree would remove them 4 days later but by then I would have had about 100 calls and about 60 orders lol. Slightly more tricky now hence my other post re marketing/advertising etc.

I was still struggling to decide what to do. Then it hit me! I'm going to buy Comet. Now what to do with the other £99...

^ and if it is so easy to apply yourself, how about an installation guide? (When I clicked through on the section I thought this was, it was the price for you to apply it)

Very useful and valid comment. We have an instruction manual which gets sent with every order so I could PDF and link it from the website. Good idea, thank you

Slowly getting there on my 'business'.

I'm setting up a website with legal guidance on a variety of topics and downloadable template documents.

Part way through guidance and docs on setting up an E-Commerce business and already got some potential guinea pigs for feedback.

Very similar to the packs you can buy for will-writing etc from WH Smiths, but more commercially focused. My main differential will be that the site will have some pretty comprehensive guidance on how to use the docs.

Never going to be a replacement for proper legal advice, but hopefully a good starting point.

So a couple of market research questions:

  • what other topics would you like to see covered?
  • how much would you pay for a template document and guidance?
Any feedback gratefully received.

My background is big blue chip - last proper job was in AMazon UK senior mgmt.

I bet someone a couple of months ago that I could run a garage better than the idiots down the road who had just lost me as a customer for my bill moving from 'a couple of hundred quid' to £530.

Two months later, I have a garage - mainly servicing cars, but also general work and motorbikes too. And costs have been surprisingly low - more than £100, but not nearly as much as you'd think - if I was paying the insurance monthly I would be well under £1000. We will break even in month 1. :-)

Cool thread, started a biz few years ago with £50, now turns over 300k +

Might have a crack at starting again with £100 notes then.

What is it that you do?

Me and a friend want to start a business together and are thinking about some ideas. I hope that we are as successful as you smile

Turnover is not a measure of success wink

Not saying his business isn't successful but a high turnover doesn't necessarily mean a high profit, or even any profit for that matter.

Perhaps not but as one of lifes under achievers I wish I could just have one single idea that would achieve that sort of figure even if it meant no profit! smile

Easy, find something to buy and sell at cost price. Likelihood is you'll undercut most other people selling it so you'll get quite a few buyers and in the process you'll make absolutely no money at all! smile

Well if you take £50 and turn it into 300k then one can assume successful, unless i'm missing something?

Good luck from you £100 biggrin

I know what you're saying, but the point we're making is, not if it's costing your business £400k to generate that £300k of revenue!
