Sold the business today, feels a bit odd
Discussion
Fell out of love with it a while back, well not the business of comms but what you have to do for it to be a success.
I think the days of being a specialist are numbered, everyone calling for advice is googling as you advise them then they buy from a feed seller with 25000 pages of kit on Amazon from Hello Kitty mirrors to IP conference systems.
Anyhoo I have a handover period then ...........

Funny to mention one option is a very high end Anfield and Golf escorted tour for Thai and Australian fans -
I did some sport stuff when I sold my business so PM if you want to hear my take.Good and bad.
My main advice would be enjoy the sale for at least a short period of time.

a significant milestone, mark it in a fitting way
then take the time to think carefully about what you want to do next
go at that with the same energy and focus that you went at DST
Emptied the warehouse today 1.5 trailers - christ. Monday trading as a "consultant" working for someone else running what was my own business - weird.then take the time to think carefully about what you want to do next

I have learned so much from the sales process and about my company in the last 2 months that I feel far better equipped in skill set to go again.
I will do a write up on "so you want to sell your business" because after searching all of PH no posts tell you exactly what the process is and a lot is assumed.
It's a nice landmark, OP, and congratulations!
Good luck with the 'handover'. I found it particularly testing because, inevitably, the buyer thinks they can run the business better than you, and 1) they can't, and 2) nothing you can tell them will change their opinion (or, probably, yours)
I think what 2.5pi says makes sense. Get away as soon as you can. Offer your expertise to other companies, of course; but the ex-owner-new-owner relatonship (in my opinon) doesn't work for long.

That would be interesting.I sold my telecoms business about 11 years ago, but to an existing shareholder. He had no choice but to buy it, actually. However, it had become seriously less profitable than the period leading up to 2000 and it was becoming bloody hard work.
The write up will have to wait - I'm knackered, 12 hour day, were busy, they are trying to get our stuff on their bespoke system but as we were lazy fekkers nothing is weighed or sized
Potential - yes we have an easy million or more, plus tangents such as home automation, elderly care etc, what we lacked was a good system and staff capable of implementing it I had neither.
Promise a really useful insight once I get straight..

Congrats on the sale, hope you got loads for it! What's next for you?
I too am very interested in your write up, how you built it to a saleable position and how you actually sold it too. I can only dream of getting my online business to that stage, finding it tough at the minute but working hard on it.

It'd be good to hear your story but selling a business can be complex and certainly has many variations. It'd take up a whole thread to cover the process. Gassing Station | Business | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
