Anything creative is a good shout, graphic design/web design etc can be done from home with the right equipment and skills.
Most graphic design jobs seem to be in creative agencies and they want you on in the office. Same goes for freelance - a lot of the work is providing extra capacity for creative agencies and they want you in their office. You can get direct client work and work at home but it's a lot more hassle.
Agencies I know tend to have freelance web developers working from home, you can make a very good living if you're good (i.e. quick and can say yes a lot) Smash out custom designed websites for a few K a pop, don't need too many a month and you're doing OK.

Also freelance copywriters work from home a lot. But yeah with the creative stuff I think unless you've already got a very good relationship they want to have you where they can see you're on the right track, not disappear for a week then come back with something completely wrong and the deadline on top of you.

I know one or two people that run blogs and facebook etc pages for small businesses, keeping regular relevant posts flowing and that's effectively their home business.
These are skilled developers in javascript etc who have been in the industry for some time and are good. Not people knocking sites up on Weebly. You have made it sound a bit more simple than it is smile

Property developer, just the home wont ever be yours for long. Thats my final plan though and youve got to be able to do most things yourself to make decent profit. Im about 2 years away from having enough capital thiugh, so the dream is still a dream.

Can anyone suggest something that can be done at home and doesn't require a lot of training or specific skills? Obviously I'm not going to become an employable web developer in the blink of an eye and I'm not into being on the phone all the time, but really anything that can be done at home, just requires hard graft and pays £10/hour min would fill a hole for me while I continue to develop more specific career interests.

Any ideas?

But in bulk, sell in small quantities. Anything. It's probably the least skilled job you could do from home.

Programming. Nice quiet office, decent day rate (above £500) once you have the experience in the right niches. Just avoid the fridge.

If you're "working from home" and don't enjoy it you can always pick yourself a local office or coworking space to go to if you want to be around other people.

Am I missing something here... are people really willing to write a 500 word article on something they know nothing about for less than 4 quid? Wouldn't you make more cleaning toilets for a living?

Not unless someone would pay you for cleaning your own toilets (the point being, working from home).

I have a friend that does phonetics for scripts that require regional accents, and she has ME (every day is a gamble) so it's the only way she can get regular employment. Some people do take the piss, but often if you're good then you form a business agreement outside the site that gives you much better money.

Ignore the cheap rates at the bottom of the market. The better performers i.e. those with very good feedback are charging good rates. Drill into some of the listings and you'll find realistic costs and then lot's of add-on's too that bump up the price.

The £5 for 500 word market isn't all dross. I found someone a couple of years ago who was producing decent enough work for a website I was building.

Seems the OP hasn't bothered to respond since his opening post in April so I'd save your brainpower chaps.

I should think there would be a lot of people interested in getting work that meant they could make money while being obliged to stay at home, especially if it paid £10 an hour and didn't require any special skills.

Something id like to do, youd need a secure outbuilding or garage I suppose. A micro brewery. Local produced beer etc sold to local pubs and online etc. Gift sets etc. Just think itd be cool working at home tasting different batches of beer really.
