Hi all,
So with all my previous super cars i have always upheld the view of OEM is always the way forward. I have never modded any of my cars in the slightest, but - with my new 458 - i love the sound of the exhaust so much that i just need more of it - can anyone recommend the best after market exhaust for the 458 (i know there are many) that does not alter the sound of the exhaust note but just makes it louder - i would also love some extra pops and bangs engineered in as well....

any thoughts would be much appreciated.

cheers & merry Xmas.

I've also just bought a 458 but yet to take delivery..I've just fitted a JCR Titanium exhaust on my 991.2 GT3 and it transforms the character of the car, and all for the better IMO..I suspect a 458 will benefit equally from a similar exhaust upgrade..
In terms of an exhaust for your 458 i think Capristo is one of the better options as they specialize in aftermarket Ferraris although i have no personal experience.Depending on how much you want to spend Akrapovic make a stunning 458 exhaust, just check out 'Litchfield Motors' 458 modifications which include a good fast road geo setup..
Iain Litchfield really knows what he's talking about and where i'll take my new 458 for a lowered geo and engine mods..

Good choice with Litchfield this is where I would go. Friend recently went for Novitec via Joe Macari and seems v.happy. Sounds like an old F1 car at WOT no exaggeration

You may consider fitting an exhaust valve controller and retaining the standard exhaust. For me it hugely improves things to have the option of always open valves (and indeed always closed, when you want to be quiet) - in particular it gives you some nice burble on the overrun.

This. Completely transforms the sound of the car, and I mean completely. I get pops/bangs on overrun and the sound is incredible - just the perfect balance of tone and volume.

Its a £300 part and a DIY install, seriously suggest you try it out first: http://forzacomponenti.com/

Yep - exhaust valve controller all day - best and cheapest mod ever done :-)

Car sounds amazing with valves open and see not need for an after market exhaust that messes with warranty!

+1 on this. It's amazing how much difference simply keeping the valve open makes. It can almost feel like another exhaust on the car, and the Forza kit is spot on for this. Word of warning, you will find yourself downshifting un-necessarily all the time for the noise alone!

I’ve just ordered myself one. Are they easy to fit?

A little fiddly to get access to the plugs, but yes a straightforward DIY.

Has anybody had any issues from Ferrari from having the Forza value controller fitted, e.g. at service?

None here, mine has had three annual services since the controller was fitted, and it hasn't been mentioned. To be honest though I'd be wary of fitting one to a car with a factory warranty. Not because it will actually cause problems of course, but I wouldn't be surprised if Ferrari used it as an excuse not to pay, in the event of a large engine claim.

Graypauls certainly don’t have an issue with it as they fitted mine a month ago.

That’s kind of what prompted my Q. I asked HR Owen re fitting one following Graypaul doing yours and their response was a polite but clear ‘no way’. nonoscratchchin

I tend to think that if you need to rely upon the warranty then you shouldn't voluntarily get yourself into a grey area of "is this mod going to be ok or not". Only way to be safe is to stick to the letter of the law.

I would certainly expect Ferrari to dispute an engine related warranty claim if there is an engine modification fitted (as benign as it is), though like everything it would probably depend on your relationship with them, whether you bought the car from a main dealer, your car history, etc.

Does anyone know if putting the Forza valve controller on a 2011 has as much of an effect due to the louder noise of those year cars to start with?
