Just curious

A package of cosmetics and a hair dryer was ordered by OH and went missing. The Amazon messages said delivered and “handed to resident” which it clearly wasn’t as we were both at work.

Amazon gave it a couple of days to see if it was taken in by a neighbour then refunded in full.

As the courier obviously lied to they get fined by amazon or does Amazon take it all on the chin.

She felt guilty (wrong I know but I have done when in same situation) so hoped the courier would have to pay.

I realise feeling sorry for a global leviathan like Amazon is a bit unnecessary but I have always found their customer service to be brilliant (Prime and spend 1-2k a year probably)

It's a business risk I imagine Amazon factor in. A dishonest customer or dishonest courier cost the same.

Amazon take it on the chin mostly, we deliver some Amazon stuff and they have an agreement not to make claims for goods under a certain amount, they obviously agree the terms to get cheaper shipping rates, i guess losing a few items is outweighed by the cheaper shipping costs for thousands of items a day. I've had numerous items marked as handed to resident when they've been left outside the door, i've put it down to their logistics company having so many staff who's first language isn't English so they only have a set amount of options for delivery to choose from

But why leave it on a doorstep at all? Can’t they leave a card like the postman or attempt re-delivery?

This was about £120 of stuff (not that the courier would have known the value).

That said I continue to use Amazon with a preference because of their good customer service so I am sure it makes financial sense, but it is annoying when someone doesn’t do their job honestly.

OH didn’t gain, just had to re-order and wait a bit longer

Some couriers don't get paid if the parcel isn't delivered.

I don't understand why people order stuff when they know they are not going to be in if they don't have a "safe place" or use Amazon locker,
I assume you just expect the minimum wage overloaded courier to knock round all the neighbours until they find someone to act as your personal post office?

The GF had about 3 deliveries and a porch full of boxes within 10 mins for another householder who was out when their deliveries arrived just before Christmas.

As for Royal mail it's about a 10 mile round trip to a depot with limited hours and no parking if they need you to collect/sign for something.

O/T but as for the fookwits without a clearly displayed housenumber or just a name they need a slap the amount of time ther must cost delivery people.

Your turn to be the PH thread tt was it?

I always have my packages delivered to work as does OH but Prime next day delivery didn’t deliver next day as promised.

I don’t want it left at neighbours (although I happily take in their packages as it’s zero inconvenience and, well, neighbourly). The courier could have left it in one of our bins and left a card.

Amazon Logistics deliver the first attempt, they don't reattempt on a different day, they are only paid to attempt delivery once hence stuff being left pretty much every where.

Amazon couriers are the worst. They even manage to do it worse than Yodel.

I've had parcels left in the garden of similar sounding street name in the pouring rain and snow. They were marked as delivered to me.

A few weeks ago she had ordered an Amazon Echo and a few accessories. The courier left a fully visable note on the door to say he had hidden the parcel next to the bins. laugh

It would be very easy to rip off Amazon. The only claims I have made have been genuine. I have tracked down and had other items passed on.

I opened the door to the Herpes chap the other day. He hadn't knocked, just written "left in secure porch" on the card and left the delivery by the front door. We don't have a secure porch. The previous week the tracking showed "Signed for by resident" whilst his card said "left by bins". He is a tt.

I know there are many threads on useless couriers.

My question (and the reason I posted in Business section) was specifically when the courier is clearly at fault who pays - as some on PH may have businesse that sell via Amazon or even work in courier industry

I had a load of IT gear hidden in a recycling bin round the back of my house, with no note or anything. I only found it 4 days later when I needed the lid off that bin to stop some other stuff blowing away. How hard would a note have been??

Last week I had a guy from the local corner shop pop round with a parcel that had been left with him. There had been no card left and as it was a warranty return item I wasn't expecting anything. Whilst this wouldn't have surprised me from Yodel/Hermes/Amazon it was actually FedEx who hadn't left a card.

Did they leave a note on the tracking website instead?

Says you. Courier says it was delivered. Amazon factor in the cost of this happening but probably not that interested in who's at fault. Overall, there must be more dodgy customers than couriers. The cardboard boxes (mostly minus contents) of an Amazon delivery van were dumped down the lane a couple of years back. Police said not to phone Amazon.

We had a delivery that arrived earlier than expected and we weren't back from a short break. 'Handed to resident' we imagine means left on the doorstep and then pinched, or maybe it never got as far as the doorstep.

Nope, ‘parcel handed to resident’

I actually leave an empty recycling bin round near the front door for couriers to leave things in so feck knows why he picked a random one round the back to hide the stuff in.
