Hi

I received an email from Evans today regarding a recall for my 2016 Cannondale CAADX; apparently there is a potential issue with the front forks, which has resulted in 11 accidents including a fatality. More info here -

https://www.cannondale.com/en/Great%20Britain/Safe...

I just wanted to give PH a heads up as I know there a few on here with the same bike. The upside is a replacement carbon fibre fork, although they are telling owners not to use the bike until the fork is replaced (mid August); I use the bike nearly everyday (only for road use) so I might have to risk it till then....from what I can gather they have sold 11,800 bikes in the US/Canada and as previously mentioned there have been 11 failures; not sure how many bikes are involved in the total recall.

I have had the same email. I guess with 11 failures out of 11,800 the odds of failure are low, although I'd guess some have failed and they haven't been notified.

As I havent ridden mine since I crashed it last August the deal until August doesnt really worry me!

I wasn’t going to bother clicking the last no as I assumed it was a 2016 model year. Good thing I’m nosy as my 2014 model is included!

Mine is booked in with Mud Dock in Bristol next week for a fork replacement. I didn't buy it from them but they aren't worried where i got it from which is cool. I've hammered it over the last three years, CX racing & hitting trails, jumping & often hitting 40plus on road sections. Now when I ride it 100 yards up the smooth tarmac road im worried it will suddenly snap & I face plant!

Mud dock also said Cannondale haven't said where the fork fails, only they all need replacing.

I've just been told by Evans that my bike has been booked in on the 22nd August for the replacement. I've had a look at the forks and they look pretty solid with no damage so I'm fairly confident using it on the road till then....

I’m just waiting on Hargroves Swindon to approve mine for replacement. Seems it’ll be October time before a fork comes though. Thankfully it’s my winter road bike these days and if I really did fancy riding in the rain I could take my current commuter out

Friend of mine has just been sent this by a guy who recently bought his CX bike off him. Cannondale are refusing to cover the replacement as the new owner is not the original owner, anyone aware of any possible ways to get goodwill out of them on this?

ooerr, i didn't know where they were breaking. Mud Dock in Bristol seem really good about it. I bought my CAADX second hand but they didn't care, just sent them a side pic & a pic of the frame number & it was booked in for a replacement. It was actually booked in for this week but the forks haven't arrived so just waiting for the call from them when they are in.

Well the easiest solution in that case was not to have told them it was sold!

Did the person who purchased the bike speak to the retailer or Cannondale direct? I suspect that they may well have spoken to a retailer, who have mistakenly thought that this was dealt with in the same way as a warranty repair. It isn't; this is product safety recall and it doesn't matter that the owner wasn't the original purchaser. Cannondale will be keen to repair all the bikes, irrespective of who now owns them; under the Consumer Protection Act 1987 anyone who is harmed/injured by an unsafe product can sue.
I would refer them to Cannondale direct and see what they say.

Thanks for the replies, I don't know the details but will suggest speaking to Cannondale direct if they haven't already and then the scourge of modern day customer relations, twitter.

A tweet of that photo along with "OMG!!! Cannondale don't care if their stty forks kill you to death" or similar might elicit movement.

So...my bike was booked into Evans for the fork replacement on Thursday; I gave them a call this morning to confirm that the replacement fork had arrived only to be told it hadn't and that they are now quoting January! Has anybody actually had their fork replaced yet?

As cringey as it is, Twitter complaining usually illicits some kind of response from them.

I have been told Christmas but apparently that’s because they don’t know when the stock is coming in and therefore when the stock comes in they will move it forward. Believe that..........

I crashed mine last year in to the back of another cyclist. We both stayed on but the sudden stop broke my wrist. Cycle shop said the forks were fine, but I have been concerned ever since. Even more concerned now so not riding mine!
