I'm trying to find a website designer who specialises in using Readymag and also Wix.

We have 2 company websites that need work, one on each platform.

I can find Wix specialists from their "Arena" but so far none of those fine people are also able to use Readymag. There doesn't seem to be an "arena" to locate Readymag professionals.....

Help!

Unsure what level of work you require but I may be able to help.

I am by no means a King on either, but I have built websites on both for friends and family on the side of my other job. May be able to assist you and saves you hiring someone 10x more expensive.

You shouldn't really need a specialist for either platform. Any designer/developer who knows how to code should be capable of putting together a website on both platforms.

Agree with other poster. Anyone who knows websites especially the 'plug and play' ones can probably figure out how to do the non-Wix website.

Sorted.

It's been decided to move both sites over to Wordpress and we have found a guy who'll do it for a mere £5k. (Not sure if that's a lot or not but he seems to know his beans.)

Funnily enough I was going to suggest moving to WordPress.

If he's moving the existing website with the existing design (and creating a new template using the design from Wix/ReadyMag - which may be copyright infringement) then I'd say that's a pretty good price for two websites.

Pretty good price. Make sure you get your developer to set up automatic systems to a) make regular backups (that you can have sent automatically to a toss-away email account so it doesn't clog up your normal inbox and b) set up some basic but good security. There are some free plugins out there that will do the trick.

+1 for Wordpress - but because WP is so widely used it's a magnet for hackers and malware. You do need to stay on top of site security and maintenance.

Look at WordFence, Easy Updates Manager and Updraft Plus. That combo of extensions will usually keep your site updated and secure, and also give you the means of restoring it if sh*t happens.

Also your site designer is probably going to start from an off-the-shelf "theme" which normally costs about $50. I'd recommend you (rather than the designer) pay for and register these yourself, otherwise getting updates etc for them is difficult.

That is great advice.

Make sure you purchase the domain name yourself too (aka 'mywebsiterocks.com').

Some great advice here – thank you
I am looking at a possible web site with online selling for a new business venture, and although PC literate, I know nothing of building web sites.
Any help with regards to literature to assist is required, or someone willing to quickly chat through the cost implications.
Once I’ve seen a web page built and can follow the code, I aim to add the web pages myself.

If you are planning on having a new business venture then invest in the website
If you know nothing of building websites, you are in for a rocky road ahead - and selling online comes with all sorts of issues tied in... I wouldn't be looking to do that yourself...

without knowing more of what you need - I would recommend:
- Shopify
- BigCommerce
as a platform for eCommerce
then use an external company for any tweaking / alterations you need...

and focus your time on building the business / making sales...

there are a number of folks on here who can help - just PM one of us if you need assistance...

Thank you.
I can see a map in front of me called “online commerce” AND all across it is written “here be dragons!”
irked
I’m asking questions of a lot of people who tell me they know the online world, but nearly everyone knows a chunk of the online world. Its tying it all together, and not falling over conflicting advice that’s key.
I just want to know what a £1K buys me, £2K, £5K etc… and how much can be maintained by A.N.Other, hopefully not me, and at what cost.
There may well be some rather stupid questions at first….
Maybe I should start a thread on it….

drop me an email / give me a call - details in my profile smile

no simple answers - more a matter of how you want to run your business...
- world domination - then £5k buys you nothing
- gentle part time income from home - you can get a long way with £1k

how much can be maintained by others - as much as you want / can afford - there is a cost to everything, either to you as cash or time - and the same for others... we have eCommerce clients where we do it all / we have some where we only step in for the tricky technical bits (I was in the back of BigCommerce this morning for one of them) / we have those where we have started by running it and then trained their staff to take on more to save them money...

any option you want smile

Bit late to this but I do know a thin smear of knowledge covering the eComm world, we definitely cannot do the site but I am happy to have a chat if you wish.
