How true, although the more you research the order the easier it is to spot a fraud, thus saving money.

These chargeback measures are there to protect the customer (and rightly so), but because fraud is the merchant's responsibility to seek out there's always the chance the customer will order a product and then change their mind, causing a chargeback to take place - this is very annoying and expensive!

But Mastercard are soon to introduce a new system whereby the customer must enter their 4 digit PIN - which is their responsibility to keep safe. This PIN will be checked and if a fraud does take place then its tough - the merchant has no worries - which I think is a better method.

I've also found that the online order tracking benefits us in terms of getting the customer to commit to a sale as they feel reassured and safe - it's amazing what the small ideas can do.

E-Commerce is an art in itself!

Would an IP to country match be useful to you too?

We currently track visitors using visitor stats which gives the region, country, OS, browser type etc and we cross reference that with the time of order.

Fraudulent orders or not I like to see how people navigate the site and what products they look at as a means to gearing up the site for quality easy to find content and making sales and making country specific versions of the site if needs be, so I don't really ban any region, I let them get on with it and analyse afterwards.

It's just like how supermarkets work, in terms of what products are most prominent at certain times of the day - i.e. in the mornings when pensioners and housewifes are out they have one kind of product on offer and then after 5pm another product is on offer.

I find it very interesting!

Thanks for the offer though

...PH is a huge cash machine...

In the scheme of things it's still a small business

Ah what I meant was that PH is a proper, proven business not a smart idea that is just an idea. I suspect you will have a good trading history and that the banks would like to help. Might save you a few interst points and get the cash quicker, or at least give you a stick to get worldpay to give you better terms.

We have in the past had trouble getting banks to give people internet merchant accounts however we now have a tame barclays contact who can usually come up with the goods very quickly.

I might look into switching suppliers at some point but just don't have the time to consider it currently.

What kind of account do you have to have with WorldPay to get pre-auth? Or is it available to all?

My wife has an acount type "WorldDirect Merchant", but I can only find pre-auth mentioned on WorldPay's website under "Corporate Business". Does this mean pre-auth is only available on a corporate account?

Surely this is "Chip & Pin"? Or are you talking about a way of doing this on-line?
