I got a letter from the council last week, saying I was eligible. My premise is classed as 'Warehouse' and the letter says I am eligible for the 10k grant. Hope that answers the question for someone who was asking if their premise qualifies.

My brother’s valuation on VOA says ‘workshops and premises’.
Will he qualify?

Edited by Seventy on Sunday 29th March 19:02
Does he get sbrr or retail relief in 19 20?

Does he do retail sales to the general public?
Out of interest, what’s the treatment of charities occupying either (a) retail premises or (b) premises under the SBRR threshold?

Also are you filtering out empty properties, as the rules say they don’t qualify?

I think there is some confused info here.
We got this from the council Saturday.
Retail / hospitality has access to a higher level but as CBRE told me we should all get £10k.

Cash grants support

On Monday 30 March a new form will go live on this site, for businesses to claim these cash grants from Wirral Council.

A one-off, cash grant of £10,000 (revised from the £3,000 announced at the Chancellor’s Budget) for all active businesses currently eligible for small business rate relief (SBRR) or rural rate relief to help meet their ongoing business costs (with the exception of those occupied for personal use, (e.g. private stables, beach huts and moorings) even if they are in receipt of small business rate relief).

If your business is eligible for SBRR or rural rate relief, you will be contacted by Wirral Council to advise on next steps. Government funding for the scheme is expected to be provided to local authorities in early April.

In addition to the above, a one-off, cash grant of up to £25,000 will be available for retail, hospitality and leisure businesses:

For businesses in these sectors with a rateable value of under £15,000, they will receive a grant of £10,000.
For businesses in these sectors with a rateable value of between £15,000 and £51,000, they will receive a grant of £25,000.
To facilitate payment of these grants, you will need to complete and submit and online form that we will available here on Monday 30 March.

Thanks.

We meet the criteria for the 10k - which will definitely come in handy.
Looks like Manchester are doing it all by post.

This may help regarding grants

Scheme 1 – Business Support Grants Fund

all properties in receipt of small business rates relief on 11th March, including those in receipt of tapered relief, will be eligible for a grant payment of £10,000

note: Properties whose liability is calculated using the small business multiplier but not in receipt of small business rates relief will not qualify for this grant and neither will properties which are occupied for personal use, e.g. private stables, beach huts and moorings even if they are in receipt of relief.

Scheme 2 – Retail, Hospitality and Leisure Business Grants Fund

properties which would have qualified for retail discount on 11th March will be entitled to either,

£10,000 where the RV is £15,000 or less or

£25,000 where the RV is greater than £15,000 and less than £51,000.

there is also enhanced retail relief which I can share

This is the bit that bothers me, I wasn't in receipt of SBRR then because the rating authorities were unaware of the existence of my unit. Had they been I would absolutely have qualified. I expect there will be plenty of other businesses in the same position, I wonder if any provision is being made for them.

Prolex, Can you with your wisdom, confirm if "Self catering holiday unit and premises" with sbrr of £4,000 would be eligible?

Our council are being rather slow on this and no info yet.

Thank you smile

We seem to be one of many who've slipped through the cracks, moved into premises 14 months ago, had just been converted from agricultural to business.

Long story short there's been a long, protracted back and forth between the council and the landlord over change of use and the building has still not been reassessed as a standalone property (was previously part of a larger holding).

So while we should qualify for the 10k, computer says no.

At the SBRR level of course a charity would ironically pay more (20%) than a business (0%) if it had charitable relief.

The question seemed to be about “would qualify” rather than “receive.”

My FiL is a trustee of a charity with small museum premises. Their council refused to allow them to claim SBRR but instead awarded them 100% charitable relief. No actual difference... until now smile

This is what I posted this morning but what you hadn’t mentioned until I did. ALL businesses with sbrr get £10k regardless of office, tent, shop etc.

Please double check what’s being posted as this is serious st for lots of us.

I think I did earlier.

I am also helping with enhanced retail relief which in many cases is worth more than £10k and for many more business owners

My Local Authority (Kirklees) said they would be in touch the week beginning the 23rd of March and that the simple online Application facility would be up and running the same week.

They haven't and it isn't.
