I have a strange issue with Android Auto at the moment.

I use Waze for nav (no different if I use Google maps) and unless I am playing something through Spotify, I get no guidance sound at all. I've looked at all the settings and they appear to be correct, I'm flummoxed.

I'm on Android version 10. Waze and Android Auto are up to date.

In Waze settings > Audio player, do you have Spotify connected?

Thanks for your reply.

No "show audio player" is off. Spotify is accessed through Android Auto which leads me to believe it's an Android Auto issue rather than Waze. If I use Waze on it's own (not connected to Android Auto) it works perfectly. It stopped working a couple of months ago and I've periodically searched for an answer but can't find anything. The only thing similar is the other way round with people not getting voice guidance whilst listening to Spotify/ music. But for me the only way to get voice guidance in either Waze of Google Maps is to play spotify (it doesn't work when spotify is paused either)

This may sound dumb but try turning up the volume when you think there should be an announcement. I have found that the map guidance announcement has independent volume to anything else but it can only be adjusted when the announcement is playing.

No, via USB.
