As from 1st January 2021, if you make a direct purchase for personal use from outside the UK,
the business selling you the item has to be registered with HMRC for UK VAT.

Whilst this will not directly affect the individual purchaser, I wonder if some small businesses outside of the UK
will decide that it's just not worth the hassle, and decide not to supply private individuals in the UK,
which could limit the choice of what we will be able obtain in the future?

And if said businesses don’t do HMRC’s bidding, what will happen?

I think Alibaba is an OMP in that case?!

Why not do what they've always done? Hit the receivers for the duty?

It will if I want to buy something costing over £135 from abroad.

There will be no change from the current arrangements for B2C sales which cost over £135
and so how will it affect you differently?
