Wonder if anyone's got any knowledge on this?

We acquired a little company a few years ago and tried to port their main number across to our system. There were all sorts of contractual issues (apparently) and we had to pay the existing provider for a number forward.

Anyway - it's out of contract now and I wanted to port it our main provider. The existing company wants £90 to do this? They say it's in the T&Cs and they get charged so have to pass this. They have been a PITA through this process though, and my BS radar is pinging!!! I know it's only £90 but is that really a charge I need to pay?

Yes thats quite normal.

Obviously the cost of this varies from company to company. But porting fees are normal.

Edit**
Just checked on our prices, we charge £35 +vat, so its a bit more than normal.

I think Voipfone have porting fees on their website if you wanted another point of comparison.

Apologies to hijack the thread. We are currently with BT, our contract expires in June and are looking to move to a VoIP system.

Can anyone recommended a provider? We only need 3 phones and broadband.

We've just agreed to setup with HiHi (it's our first phone system). Happy to put you in touch with the sales guy they sent to the office (they also do broadband)
