It seems that the prices of what many PistonHeads would refer to as a "toy" or "weekend" car have increased over the last 12 months. The theory on many of the groups that I lurk around on is that this is possibly due to a lot of folk accumulating funds from not going holidays, socialising, commuting etc.
Are you one of these people? had you treated yourself to something for a bit of fun?

No, but I have SORN'ed (no insurance either) my daily driver, and am using the 'weekender' 90 V8 instead.
Just last night a random chap commented while I was parked that it's nice to see an old Land Rover out and about being used 'properley' (it's covered in mud too as I was out playing last weekend).

Yep, I bought a 911. Wanted one for a long time and it fits perfectly into my life.
I don't care about values at all - if anything Covid has taught us that life is short so you need to enjoy. I will be spending the summer (and the next few years) creating lots of memories as I drive the wheels off the thing.
And burning lots of CO2 of course.

This time last year I expected the prices of used luxury items to tank along with the housing market. I was obviously completely wrong. I'm now wondering if all these people that bought things like Boxsters or camper vans will really rush to sell them for a loss in the next 12 months if they don't really need to release the money.
Nope, sold the car and bought a motorbike.
No longer commute so the car was sat idle. Sold it about a year ago expecting to have to buy another when back to work properly but just hasn't happened and haven't missed the car (the wife still has a car i can use if needed).
Couple of weeks ago decided I may as well buy a bike for weekend fun, which is what I did. If I need a car in the future I'll get one but I'm not overthinking it, as someone above said, Covid has taught us life is too short to procrastinate. I try to live in the moment now.

Traded in a very sensible, practical and economical 2016 Civic diesel with less than 40,000 miles on the clock for a very non sensible, completely impractical and most definitely not economical BMW E89 z4 35i.

Maybe I’ve just bought yours! I decided on a fun car as my other weekend toy spent most of last year not being driven during the lockdowns. The pandemic made me realise that leaving money in a bank to fester was a waste. I’d much rather buy something fun, a car I’m not worried about adding miles to (unlike my 997.2 turbo). clarki said:
